So I need a place to stay for a while, in Corvallis. I was fucked over really hard by a landlord and had already moved some shit into the place and signed and paid and shit when he decide he couldnt let me or my girlfriend live there.

The reason I need a place is because I have a job down there currently who will get rid of me if I can't work during the next few weeks so if anyone has an empty couch or knows a couch that is unoccupied please let me know. I am supposed to let me manager know in the next 23 hours.

Thank you for your time.

(I will even do dirty things like say I'm a leftist if I can get any help from here).

I'd have you recite the collected works of Amadeo Bordiga from memory.

But for real: people get in touch and respond.

Have you tried OKCupid?

I'm serious.

I have not, do you think that'd work?

If not, craigslist joe it. Basically look for mingling events/roommate wanteds on Craigslist.

It might be worth trying a sofa surfing website if you're just looking for something temporary and no one can come through on this site.

Yeah, some roommate ads stuff online or something might be useful. Anything in fact (though OKCupid sounds like a very weird choice, but hey that's just me).

Also, this thread should be bumped continuously.

Looking at craiglist ads. The only issue is that if I'm working at Oregon's minimum wage, $2-300 for a two week period isn't really a good thing. However I am thankful to [email protected] for the help, its very kind of you to put time toward to help me out.

I've stuck this so it can be visible for another day or so, although yeah the bumping will still need to be done. good luck finding a place to stay, though.

I'm sorry I don't live anywhere near you. I have a good sofa bed. Hope you manage to find somewhere soon.

How's the search? Any of those caregiver deals seem legit?

I only know one person who lives down there, and she's in Portland at the moment. I hope everything works out down there!!

Landlords are the absolute worst.

I have considered those (and still am). The biggest issue is that old people are delicate and I'm not very gentle lol but I'll give it a try if nothing else by the end of tomorrow.

As an update:

I'm 99% sure the landlord is now gonna sue us. Have to wait and see on that.

He refused to void the actual contract and only would write on a copy that was never originally signed and thus, again, not the contract. So yeah that's a thing.

Maybe found a place to move in, but I want to screen the guy more given how badly this other guy has fucked us.

Job wise, I have told my new manger in Corvallis I would start by the 13th, so whether or not I have a place to sleep by then I'll go. Been talking to a friend of mine whose been homeless to give me some tips about how to organize my time and what to have with me among other things. So we will see how that goes.

Anyway, still looking.

We may have a place but I'm not sure if any of that is gonna work out. I'd much rather not rent with/from anyone anymore, at least not for a while. The job situation is gonna be interesting but we will see how it goes with that. I hope thet don't fire me but there isn't much I can do if they decide to given that I may not have an address when I move down there.

Someone recently offered to help pay for rent when I find a more long term space so that's good.

Great news!

I think I'm kind of privileged for not having a lanlord over my head. Though, and quite technically...I do have a landlord, and that's the city office for housing. Or some national level institution which could kick me out as, again technically, I'm kind of squatting (but not really, no). It's a wonderful little legal enigma.

OK, so the current situation: I will have (including all money from all sources, meaning my income, my girlfriends, and the money her mother said she would assist with) $700-$750 to pay for rent. Her mom is super woshy washey with what she says though so I'm only gonna count on $600. Most places cost more than that but all I want is a studio or single bed so that shouldn't be too hard.

I probably won't find a place to stay before I get work down there however so at this point I am still looking for couches. I am honestly considering sleeping outside if worst comes to worst as it'd just be a short term period however that does not mean I'm gonna stop trying to find a couch to sleep on.

The quest is looking brighter, that is for sure.

On a different note I should start more threads about how I need help, this has helped my rep immensely.

Airbnb? You could sleep in your car if it gets really bad.

BIXX
6th July 2015, 00:27
The issue is I don't have a car in my name and no license due to my previous laziness. Also another member has cautioned against sleeping in cars because cops will assume you're drunk and try to impound cars etc...

Idk, I'm gonna sit down and analyze my options again tonight to see if I have any options I wasn't aware of before.

Are there any cheap hostels that you could stay in in the mean time (the student/traveller/backpacker type)?

How big is this town? Is it far to the woods? Possibly could camp on the sly? I definitely think a couch or similar, for the meantime, would probably be your best option. It's too bad a car isn't an option, because it could be possible to sleep in your car out of town then drive in for work?

Do you have a couchsurfing account yet? Worth a try... Less weird than Okcupid in my opinion, haha.

Hope it all works out. Let us know what the progress is. :)

So, we may have found a place and I'd only be down there for four days without a place to stay if we manage to get it.

Glad you might have got things figured out. You need to lynch this shitbag landlord.

If he had a car, Corvallis would be a good place to car camp. My wife and I did it for a couple of weeks. And it isn't far from the woods -- camping is a good idea. But, it's fucking hot up here right now.
