what is known so far, riot cops at a big outdoor music festival in the Hague jumped 42 year old Mitch Henriquez an intoxicated Antillean man who was in the Netherlands on a family visit, suposedly because he was joking around with his friends about having a weapon on him.
the cops claim a medical emergency developed while he was on transport to the police station, that he was brought to a hospital where he died today.
video footage proofs this is a lie and the man was already at least knocked out and probably either in coma or dead when they dragged him in the police van. you can see that the cops are trying to slap him awake and check for a heartbeat yet still drag his cuffed body in a police van, a clear breach of all police procedures already by itself.

the the Hague police department is notoriously racist and shot a unarmed black kid in the back a few years ago and got away with it.
internal affairs is investigating but unless there is a huge uproar is certain they will never prosecute let alone convict the cops who murdered this man.

attention and solidarity from the whole world is very welcome, spread the word.

Aruban man beaten to death by Hague police

(Saturday June 27, 2015), Hague police officers beat 42 year old Aruban Mitch Henriquez to death after the “Night in the Park” Festival in Zuiderpark. In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Officer (OM) stated that Henriquez began to feel unwell on the way to the police station. However, it is apparent from video footage that he was already unconscious or in a coma before he was thrown into the police bus without receiving any medical attention.

Witnesses said that Henriquez was making jokes with friends after the festival, when a group of officers tackled him. Henriquez fell into a coma, and died today at the hospital. According to bystanders and his family, police officers used a lot of force to arrest him. According to the “official” statement from the OM, Henriquez supposedly yelled that he had a weapon and then resisted arrest, leading to the use of force. Henriquez only began to feel unwell on the way to the police station. Eyewitnesses and a newly released video tell a completely different story. Henriquez was joking around with his friends, and was warned by the police and walked further. His sister Lila also says that he was being loud, but toward his friends, not the police.

Mitch Henriquez is clearly already unconscious or in a coma before being dragged into the police bus.

A short time later, he and his friends are attacked by the police, and 4 officers jumped on his neck. It is clear from the videos that Mitch Henriquez was laying lifeless and handcuffed in the grass while agents were sitting on him. This does not fit with the story from the OM, which claims that Henriquez only began to feel unwell in the police van.

The doctors from intensive care said that Henriquez clearly did not die from natural causes. His sister Lila said in an interview: “his head was completely swollen, he was mainly beaten on his head. How could someone be handcuffed, thrown in the car and then arrive black and blue and unable to breathe?” Henriquez’s sister wonders.

The Hague police department has for years been at the center of many scandals because of (racist) police brutality. On November 24, 2012, 17 year old Rishi Chandrikasing was shot dead at Holland Spoor station as he ran away from the police. Racist police brutality is also a daily reality in the Schilderswijk and Transvaal neighborhoods in The Hague. In these neighborhoods, seemingly everybody knows somebody who has been a victim of police brutality, or even have even been victims themselves. Victims stated earlier to the local media: “I am often asked to show ID, for no reason. If I ask why, I get taken away and getting beaten up and abused in the police car. It continues at the station. They threw me into the cell and beat me while I was still handcuffed. Afterwards, they sprayed me with the fire hose and left me for the whole night soaking wet in the cell.” Even ex-officers speak of a culture of violence and racism in the police unit. These are only a few examples of the racist and violent culture of the police in The Hague, which has always been denied and covered up by police top brass and Hague mayor Jozias van Aartsen.

Tonight there was a demonstration of 500+ people in front of the responsible cop station, it escalated into small clashes with the riot police.
I am now in the train back, ill post pictures etc when I come home.

It's going to be intresting what's going to happen tonight, this is a very explosive immigrant area where also radical autonimists have been organizing for years, throw in the upcoming heat wave and the facts that everyone is on the streets the whole night because of Ramadan and shit might escalate further.

Is it normal for your riot police to be armed? Seems pretty crazy for the truncheon/shield yielding riot cops to have a handgun at their side in a riot/potential riot situation!

Anyone pick that gun up?

Yes, always, though they behave differently than cops in other countries. Except the police on horse back and the plainclothed snatch squads dutch riot police are supposed to always "hold the line", so they move forward and backward in line formation just taking the missiles thrown at them, if it becomes to intense they deploy the watercanon (a wheeled fortress that can take and deliver a punch) and shoot teargass from behind their lines. The horses are used for dispersing the crowds and the snatchsquads take out the "leaders" and people they have on video doing stuff.
Normal riotpolice dont often loose their side arm, and because they normaly dont get isolated from their team they are not at risk from it getting taken from them, i have seen it happen with a snatchsquad member but its rare. A few years ago a bunch of snatchsquads guys pushed their luck at a free beach festival and got isolated by a big group of rotterdam hooligans and they opened fire and shot a bunch of people. But for the fact that every cops is armed and very shitty trained they shoot in general comparitivly few people each year.

5 cops are suspended pending the investigation, dutch police is investigated by the rijksrecherche, a special police section that investigates people working for the state. they are actually relatively decent, main problems are that the dutch police code is notoriously vague and that the public prosecutors who will have to try a case if it comes to it see themselves as colleagues of the cops (which they are, they fall under the same department now a days) and almost always refuse to demand a conviction which is for most judges leading.
there is a good chance that if they go to court not the cops who chocked Mitch to death will be convicted but only the cops who failed to call an ambulance when he passed out.

anyways, another demo is called for tonight, i wont be able to make it and i presume it will be banned and cracked down upon anyways. i expect a open ended ban on all demonstrations in the Schilderswijk (the area where the riots took place) will be announced tomorrow, they did this too last summer when our version of the EDL tried (and succeeded) to provoke clashes with the immigrant youth in the area.

the mayor declared an "ban on assembly" (samenscholingsverbod) for the whole impacted neighborhood this afternoon in an effort to quench the riots, tonight the cops kettled the whole scare in the middle and arrested everyone there, more than a hundred people, mostly just curious passersby
