What do you think of Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

I think he was a good critic. Unlike others of his time instead of siding with the Soviets or the States, he attacked both. I think going into Boliva was a very bad move however. The Bolivians did not want revolution at the time. Even Che himself admitted that, saying that all that the Bolivian mission was set to accomplish was another "Vietnam" to start a continent revolution. But in general, I would honestly say he was a good person even though I disagree with many of his actions. But as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Emm, I think this may be better off in the actual Che forum. However, to answer your question I think Che was a true revolutionary hero, he did not just talk and write, but he led by example and in the end gave his own life to the cause of social justice.

I was talking to someone today who has visited Cuba, and confirmed that indeed Che (and Fidel also) are adored by the Cubans. However he also told me a story about being on a cruise ship that was passing Cuba, and when the ship passed a statue of Che all the Americans on board started booing and shouting insults, that one made the hair on me neck stand on end!

He was great a true hero to the people of the world, the fact that he eventually gave his life for his beliefs and had the balls to call his murderers cowards, and telling them that by shooting him they could only kill a man, when he knew they were there to kill him.

He also was quite the philosopher in his way, I rather like this quote "Cruel leaders are replaced only to have new leaders turn cruel".

I meant that the point of the thread is "what does OI think of che", the capitalists and right wingers could hardly reply to it if it were in the che forum.

That is complete and total bullshit. Your friend obviously didn't ask the common Cubans. I know many people that have visited Cuba and many people that were born in, and fled from, Cuba. I know people that were wealthy before Castro took over and I know people that were poor before and during Castros rein. Except for a few places Cuba is a shit hole.

I work with a guy that fled Cuba 8 years ago. While in Cuba the governent did provide for him. He did survive but his quality of life was very poor. His electricity was cut off at night. When his family recieved meat it was cut with so much tofu it was almost white. Maybe some of you Cuba lovers should hop on a plane and visit. It is not the eutopia you invision.

One more thing. My friend that fled eight years ago showed up in the US unable to speak English. In 8 years he learned the language, received real education, and got a job with a fortune 500 company making over 50k a year. Thats the USA I love!!!!

and how is che responsible for that? he fought for revolution, he is not responsible for the cuban government's mistakes.

I should have been more specific. My post was aimed at the post that stated that Cubans adore Castro.

Where are the rebellions? Where are the anti-Castro demonstrations? When is anyone cheering the great name of Fulgencio Batista? When are Cubans refusing to work?

The answer is clearly: In Miami and nowhere else. The reason is because Miami Cubans are bitter and in complete denial. I wonder how much of Cuba's excellent health, education, agricultural, scientific, housing, mass organizations, and other such systems would survive under the regime of the people in Miami.

Viva Batista! Viva sabotage, assassination, and terrorism! Viva homelessness!

...a real education? Good Job paying 50k a year?

Oddly enogh there are Americans born in America who don't recieve a real education. Who can't get a good job and make less than that .

The USA you love? I wonder how much you'd love it if you grew up in one of the trailer parks or ghettos of Talahachee Mississippi

Lucid,

To claim that every Cuban loves Castro would be the same as to claim that God really does bless America!! Consider the following,

1 - This friend I was telling you about spent time doing voluntary work on the island at an Orange grove near Havana, and so was indeed within close contact with the everyday Cuban.

2-
Maybe some of you Cuba lovers should hop on a plane and visit I'm going this summer, and not to a tourist resort, I'm going with the CSC, and will be working on a farm, visiting hospitals and schools and meeting families.

3-
Thats the USA I love!!!! , attacks on democratic governments, support of dictatorships and a blockade of a nation which starves families constantly, thats the USA IS DETEST!!!!

4-
His electricity was cut off at night. When his family recieved meat it was cut with so much tofu it was almost white. , Perhaps your friend failed to inform you that Cuba's largest trading partner collapsed, the nation is under illegal blockade and it is classed as a Third World Nation.

5-
work with a guy that fled Cuba 8 years ago , Most exiles are either ex-Batista thugs, those who loved the time when Cuba was a whore to the USA.

Lucid, you love a nation that is the source of terrorism. It terrorises nations that refuse to conform to it's standards, and feels it has a right to police the world. I will defy your nation and all that it stands for and I know many, many others willing to do the same. I WILL go to Cuba even though your government does not want me to. I WILL buy produce from Cuba even though your government does not want be to. I WILL not be like you and the majority of others being farmed by your state!!
