Nationalist attak the squat "Odzysk' and anarchist club "Zemsta" in Poznan

More than 300 violent football supporters clashed with police Sunday in Poznan at the Old Market. After celebrating the championship Lech Poznan in the square Adam Mickiewicz's they headed for the anarchists squat "Odzysk"and wanted to set fire to it.

At about 23.20 around 350 people gathered under our squat and started to attack with melee weapons, stones, bottles, firecrackers, flares and chairs and tables from the nearby beer gardens. They extinguished the flares that were thrown to the building and fell through the windows on several floors and barricaded the door. The attack was carried out from two sides of the building, from the street School and Paderewski.
The attackers were prepared for the attack and knew exactly what to do. They shouted slogans: "We are a very small group, go ahead come outside,"We'll kill you"; "We'll burn you." For 40 minutes they tried to get into the building they tried to break the door. One of the entrance burst into flames. We tried to put out the fire from the inside.
After midnight, the fire brigade arrived, but the crowd did not allow them to drive up to the building, after some time the riot police arrived and protected the place for the next 1.30 hours from the attacks of the crowd. Only armored car with a water cannon split up the attackers.

If the state uses paramilitary forces in order to hide the source of the policy being applied, clearly you can't rely on the state to investigate anything done by the paramilitary forces. It would be a whitewash at best.

Maybe that's why they fear anarchists who couldn't care less about anybody else's "authority" to investigate such things.

the situation in poland really does sound desperate..the only place were i have visited and made sure i didn't wear any political shirts.

What exactly is the situation with squatting in Poland? Even though the fash were involved, it seems somewhat strange to hear of the police defending a squat, however slow they took.

I could see the police wanting to disperse a mob trying to start fires, even if it was a squat they were trying to burn down.

Of course, I just meant conceptually it sounds strange. Contextually it makes alot of sense I guess. Apologies if this wasn't clear.

My main point though is, what is squatting like in Poland?

i think there is mostly, as in all countries, silent squatting just to have roof over your head but in most of the major cities there is at least 1 or 2 big pollitical autonomous centers run by the local anarchist scene. these are always a center of antifascist actifity and so a focus point for nazi retribution violence.
