No one knows who he was. No one knows what he was doing out that day. No one even knows if he's still alive.
All we know him as is 'Tank Man'. His solitary act of defiance is considered to be the iconic image of the Tienanmen Square protests and subsequent government repression.
To this day, the Chinese government continues to call the event a 'counter-revolutionary riot', and suppresses any discussion of the event. Even as the masses of Chinese protesters sang The Internationale as tanks were rolling towards the Square.
This is Deng Xiaoping's legacy. Never forget that the 'New China' was built upon the bones of its people.
