My former roommates cat knew perfectly well it was supposed to use its box, and still chose not to from time to time. Ruined every carpet in the house.

It had been an "outdoors cat" when younger and still wanted out sometimes. Problem was that we lived on the 4th floor and it was impossible to arrange for its return.

So every time I let it out, it disappeared for a week after which I (my roommate being too busy to go retrieve her own damn cat) had to go get it from some strangers house who had taken it in.

So I wouldn't let it out, hence the revenge. It was almost fascinating, how it even knew I would be mad, so it ran and hid as soon as I entered the room, but it still did it.

Cats certainly are interesting animals.

Oh yeah, it's only natural for a once outdoors cat to exact its revenge when being forced to live in an apartment. On the other hand, I'm extremely lucky as my little beast was used to the apartment and her box since day one (she was I'd say 3 months old, tops). She didn't mess up anything, not even once (discounting some accidents from the early days).
