I got the idea for this horrifying film from an episode of strange addictions.

It's definitely horrifying...

Its an interesting plot idea, but I actually feel really sorry for these people. It must take an incredible amount of personal isolation for a person to develop romantic feelings for a doll.

Nope. Nope. That's freaky even for me

It's funny, yet sad (more sad than funny) that these people exist.

At least the guy I'm specifically going after in this, the way he treats his doll(s) (he decided they were lesbian but also had to convince the first one to not be upset when the new one started living with them) reminds me of an abusive relationship. That's what bothers me so much about him.

When I read an interview with him (I can't link to interviews yet, but it's one conducted by theatlantic), I got the impression that he didn't develop these feelings as a desperate attempt to escape loneliness and isolation, but that he genuinely feels a connection and a preference to what he calls "artificial women."

But yes, it is slightly creepy. If he invited me round for dinner, I think I'd politely decline.

Whats the guy's name? I'll look up the interview. I doubt any of these people would explicitly say that they chose a relationship with a doll in order to escape loneliness, that doesn't mean isolation isn't what caused them to feel a romantic connection with dolls in the first place though.

Years ago I remember watching a documentary about a woman who had a romantic relationship with a very large bridge. When it was initially described to me it sounded like a joke, but upon watching it I could tell that the woman had obviously been the victim of some kind of abuse. If people want to have relationships with dolls or bridges, that seems perfectly fine to me but it's hard to believe that some level of trauma isn't involved in that kind of choice.
