Fuck. Anybody who has been around this board knows I've spent the last over-a-decade playing (https://failbetter.bandcamp.com) in (https://archive.org/details/KnowHopeForTheSkids-NoHopeForThePigs) punk (https://myspace.com/friendsoftheredarmyfactio/music/songs)/hardcore (http://secondwavemom.bandcamp.com/) bands (https://archive.org/details/EvictionParty-Demo2012) - and though there are some folk and pop inspired moments in there, I can't say I've never been enamoured of pop-country. BUT HOLY FUCK, KACEY MUSGRAVES IS SO GOOD. Anthems about the working class condition (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZfj2Ir3GgQ), and resisting social pressures (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofsvcA-2XmE) and . . . just so good. Shit.

Yep, she's awesome. This is the reason I prefer Alt Country (as well as the much older stuff) over what's popularly 'country music' that gets played on the radio. The mainstream C/W music industry is a notoriously cynical one: It does everything it can to appeal to a conservative christian audience, but has absolutely no problem with exploiting female sexuality to appeal to the bro country crowd at the same time.

The only country music I listen to nowadays is old timey stuff like Hank Williams Jr, Willy Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels etc. It is probably the best music to hold drunken sing-a-longs to at 2 AM. I have heard of Kacey Musgraves, though, particularly that first song, which they play on certain radio stations. I don't listen to much modern country, though, just some bluegrass and some kinda-country like Devil Makes Three and the Drive By Truckers.
