Last Saturday marked 50 years since an event that became a turning point in both American and World history.

I'm talking of the marches from Selma to Montgomery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selma_to_Montgomery_marches), famously led by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other Civil Rights Activists. After receiving national and international attention (partly due to the infamously violent repression by Alabama State Police), it would ultimately lead to the passing of the Voting Rights Act.

See that young gentleman on the bottom right? The one whose about to get bludgeoned by a pig's club?

That's John Lewis. He's a congressman now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lewis_%28politician%29) (in my home state of Georgia).

Of course, if you haven't heard recently, the Voting Rights Act...the one that MLK, John Lewis and others shed blood (and in some cases even died for) is once again under attack here in the States. Mostly by the very same powers that were beating these people all those years ago.
