View Full Version : Should democracy be changed to make sure that only educated people can vote?

It really scares me to see these parties with idiotic policies gaining all these voters, but these voters don't even understand what the policies are.

Should there be a law where, in order to vote, you need to fill out 10 polices that the Conservative and Labour party support and if you are able to name at least 5 policies per party, you're registered vote at the election.

I mean most people don't even know the difference between Liberalism and Conservatism.
As JFK said,
"The ignorance of one voter in a democracy, impairs the security of all."

Yes but only as long as the present system where the votes don't actually matter is kept in place.

Only brainwashed people, who can present an official Certificate of Brainwashing, should be allowed to vote ;)

I support restricting the franchise to the aristocracy, but only if the descendants of people who were given hereditary nobility by the Hapsburg king-emperor are counted.

In unrelated news, this is an awful idea. The problem with society is not that uneducated people can vote but that the state, structurally, serves the interest of the bourgeoisie (and yes, that also means the owners of your local fair trade organic market, not just "the 1%" or "the corporations"). And yeah, people can't tell the differences between bourgeois parties because the differences are superficial. You're wallowing in a pile of crap criticising people because they don't see the difference between two lumps of shit.

I can pass!

1.Support capitalism
2.Lie
3.Make war
4.Fuck the proletariat
5. Use coded racist rhetoric to appeal to voters like the op

Advocating "literacy tests"? Fuck off!

The Germans number around forty million. Will for example all forty million be member of the government?

Certainly! Since the whole thing begins with the self-government of the commune.

Just on principle, communists do not support shit like literacy tests. You've come to the wrong forum if you're expecting people to agree with your bullshit.

I can't even wrap my head around you quoting JFK and expecting to find traction here.

The irony of such a system would be: anyone dumb and ignorant enough to advocate it wouldn't be allowed to vote.

look the average intelligence of the common person isnt even that bad. my solution is to put more money and resources in education so that the average person has more of a chance to be know more. although that may not work because there are a hell of a lot of other factors that contribute to this sort of thing, my solution may help significantly.

we do not want to create a group of people that make all the decisions (to me it is like making race of bourgeoisie if we give a group of people all the power.

if you look at history it shows that if you give power to all small amount of people that it corrupts them over the long term so why do we want to do that.

oh and don't confuse my messages as me saying that we don't need significant change. i really think we need to progress to a communist society.
(sorry for my poor grammar and all that)

Here in the UK the most highly educated (and thus most highly indoctrinated) already shape public policy to a great degree.

Great idea. Make fun some someone for having an 'uneducated' idea, and then ban them for being a troll. The irony in this thread is suffocating. What if gryphus was not a troll and just your average liberal who is starting to lean left, but still has some hang ups from the past. You just ban him? Go communism. Fuck I hate this site.

Because, you know, a literate person well versed in politics would've likely read about it.

Welcome to Revleft, where any poster who posts "questionable" politics is immediately banned instead of being redirected to the Opposing Ideology subforum from which debate and learning can happen.

If this was the experience that would turn him away from communism, then he probably wasn't very committed to learning about it in the first place. Try tracking him down and invite him to libcom. Y'all can then have all the conversation you want about the pro/cons of administering literacy tests in order to vote.

The difference between this and the U.S. literacy tests is that the latter were inherently racist and flawed in order to deny black people the right to vote; meanwhile, the OP did not suggest a test of these characteristics.

That said, establishing educational requirements for voters is basically removing the right to vote of the most downtrodden. This is an authoritarian idea that has been proven wrong by the progress of history.

If you want an informed voting public, you might want to stop lying about the NSA and persecuting whistleblowers.

One person's idiot is another's native genius.

If people are citizens and are subject to US laws, they should have a vote. Besides, at this point, as far as politician on the ballot, voters are essentially choosing between two people, both of whom will sell out voters.

Bottom line, the elites of this world are the so-called educated ones and they are already calling the shots. Exclusion is not the way to promote unity amongst the 99%, inclusiveness and education vis-a-vis the individuals real interests is. Remove the vote by all means. It will sharpen the class war, but don't fool yourselves that the 'educated' will give you the political result you're angling for. Remove the vote and we plebian dogs will find other means to register our disapproval that I'm positive the narcs of this world would hate. Silence our voices and we burn down your house. Country simple.
