Hi there everyone, I've been a lurker for a while and an Anarchist friend of mine finally got me to join. I am a Croatian Pan-Slavic Marxist. I'm torn between Marxism-Leninism and Anarcho-Communism (I can't make up my mind whether or not transitional state socialism is necessary or not). I hope to be an active member of the forum!

There is also always the alternative of non-Stalinist, and also non-Leninist Marxism.

Marxism doesn't claim there can be a transitory socialist state, neither does Leninism (it defines socialism as lower-stage communism). Only Stalinism does.

Ah thank you, that helps. At the core, I adhere to plain Marxism. I am a fan of Lenin but not too keen on Stalinism. I'll have to read up more

neither does Leninism

Stalinism is just a sub-group of Leninism, though.

The term "marxism-leninism" isn't actually just marxism and leninism. It's a term used either to refer to Stalinists (Maoists, Hoxhaists, etc) or Brezhnevites (pro-Soviet post-Stalin -ists).

You might be interested in the italian left- communism (a.k.a Bordigism) and Trotskyism (if you aren't aware of it already).

If you think you're a marxist with "anarchist leanings" you might be interested in council communism and the dutch/german left- communism.
I'm not sure it's a legitimate tendency but there is also something called libertarian marxism.

Wow there are so many tendencies. I'm starting to find Trotskyism somewhat interesting. Would you recommend reading "Betrayed Revolution"? And isn't libertarian marxism synonymous with Anarcho-Communism? At least that's what I heard. Once again thanks all for the replies!

Sure, if the question it deals with is of primary interest to you now I guess it's not a bad place to start. You should maybe ask some of the trotskyists here for further reading recommendations and an introductionary reading list even.

Not excactly but there are strong similarities. The term libertarian marxism is really an umbrella term for different tendencies and groups who share some characteristics and some of them overlap with forms of anarcho- communism.
