It seems that the system spent 40 years to build the desirable type of puppets in power, but now faces a major threat: an anti-systemic generation of politicians born early in this 40-year period. They took Athens with Tsipras and heading to Madrid with Iglesias. Will they someday take Berlin?

Spain and Greece have taken a beating in the Eurozone economic crisis so of course there's more support for more "radical" alternatives like SYRIZA and such, in contrast nations like Germany or Poland have been doing pretty well economically so the political figures tend to be more moderate.

It is likely that Spain and Greece are the extent to which state power can be taken over by left-populists in the short-term. Perhaps in the longer term countries like Portugal, Italy, Ireland and parts of Britain could be ground where left-populism can be fomented, but I think in the next 4-5 years, the actions and success of SYRIZA and Podemos will determine the future of left-populist electoral parties in Europe.
