Personally, I think it's the ultimate in ironies. I remember a while back, after the fall of Baghdad, the CP came out and considered it a new era for them (as they too, had been suppressed under Saddams regime). They called for quick construction of a provisional govt and the removal of US and coalition troops.
Personally, I think the CP would be the best for a unifying party in Iraq. I think the CP is the best unifying party around, when placed under strict situations.

If the ICP leads in setting up a social democracy, we can finally prove to those cappies that Communism does not mean dictatorship.
Captialist: "Can you should me a country that's Communist and is not totalitarian?"
We: "Iraq."
Captialist: "What the -?, Damn!"

Hmm.. a democratic communist government in Iraq (or indeed anywhere) being supported by the USA?
Not likely for obvious reasons, such as it would be counter-productive to oil control... (er how are US oil companies gonna control Iraqi oil exports when all major inustries are nationalised??? ).
Nah maybe they mean communist like the Khemer Rouge? Or maybe communist like China (ie a nation subserviant to international capitalism).

I agree..
Judging from America's track record, they put themselfs over others.
Why have a multi-billion dollar war, and end up giving it back to the people? and to a group that's politcial views are the total oppisite of yours.
I have never seen in history, a country attack another country..to put in a goverment that's views are different and can compremise their intrests in the region.

I'm not sure, exactly, how the US is reacting to this suggestion - if it's going to gain any weight at all.

Well, I'd say the CPI is much more palatable to the US then the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq. I don't think there is going to be a Republican party in Iraq anytime soon, so the US is just trying to work with what they have.

I visited the CPI's site and checked it out.

They seem to have been opposed to the war all along, but it appears that they believe in cooperating with the US occupation forces. They claim that they want to work with the all "patriotic" Iraqis. If I had to guess, I'd say they were a stalinist fossil from the cold war era. Despite their apparently good intentions, they are making a mistake by associating too closely with the occupation authorities.

It'd be more accurate to say "U.S. using Iraqi "Communists"".
That WorldNetDaily (a rightist publication BTW) article makes it sound like the ICP is opposing the occupation. That's not so accurate if you follow other news from Iraq.
The ICP supported the Ba'athist regime when it was first started. After consolidating power with ICP help, the Ba'athists then turned on the ICP and ruthlessly suppressed them.
Now the ICP's making the same mistake with the U.S. occupation.

First off, look at the source of your news report. I can't believe I am seeing somebody posting a news report for http://worldnetdaily.com/ this is probably one of the most slanted right wing news sources on the net, people like the freepers (hard core pro-bush and capitalism and god) site. You might as well just post something from Rush Limbaugh.
Secondly: You can't believe anything they post on their site.
