Subject: APRIL 14 – SHUT DOWN AMERICA'S BUSINESS AS USUAL!
To Chicago Stop Mass Incarceration Network: The April 14 Shut Down America's Business As Usual plans will be part of the discussion at a national meeting in Atlanta Feb. 7-8 and at a local Chicago meeting Sat. Jan 31 in Chicago (details to follow.)
APRIL 14 – SHUT DOWN
AMERICA'S BUSINESS AS USUAL!
NO SCHOOL! NO WORK! SAY NO MORE TO SYSTEM GIVING A GREEN LIGHT TO KILLER COPS!
Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Dontre Hamilton, Tanesha Anderson, Richard “Pedie” Perez, Ezell Ford, Omar Abrego, John Crawford, Marya Cornejo and Jordan Baker – All of these people were killed by police in the past 6 months. And we could list many more people whose lives were stolen by those who are sworn to protect and serve. Yet the system has punished NONE of these killer cops! This wanton police murder is part of an overall genocidal program targeting Black and Latino people, a program that includes mass incarceration, a school to prison pipeline and detention and deportation of undocumented immigrants that tear families apart and disappear people.
This is illegitimate and unacceptable. It must be stopped. Tens of thousands have been in the streets acting to stop it. Calls for a moratorium on resistance must be rejected Attempts to suppress the powerful, beautiful and very necessary outpourings thru repression and demonization of the protests must be beaten back. The system continues to give a green light to killer cops, so we must continue and escalate our resistance.
On April 14, we will take our movement to STOP wanton police murder to a whole new level. NO SCHOOL! NO WORK! SHUT AMERICA'S BUSINESS AS USUAL DOWN!
On this day, students must walk out of school, take over buildings and go on strike at thousands of colleges and high schools nationwide. People must gather and march in cities all across the US. The normal routine of this society includes wanton police murder of Black and Latino people. So we must disrupt that normal routine.
Our demands are clear:
Justice for all the victims of brutal, murdering police;
Indict, convict and send killer cops to jail-the whole damn system is guilty as hell;
Stop the repression targeting the protests-Drop the charges against those arrested.
No longer will we accept police wantonly killing our people. No longer will we stand by while the system gives a pass to killer cops. No longer will we allow the youth to be treated like criminals, guilty until proven innocent, if they can survive to prove their innocence
All these horrors must STOP, and on April 14, we will ACT, all across the country, to stop them.
