Previously lifestylist turned insurrectionary anarchist collective CrimethInc have been working on a political pamphlet called "To Change Everything".
Your thoughts? Effective? Noneffective? Fantastic? Tripe?

Looks good. Look forward to having the time to spare to read it all.
CrimethInc is one of the very few political groups I have any affection for.

I haven't finished yet, but, so far, I'm extremely disappointed. CrimethInc promised a piece of useful mass-oriented anarchist propaganda. Instead they delivered a fresh batch of elitist poetic waxings and anarchist "in-speak". Seriously, do they all live in a world where everyone is hyper-literate and university educated? I'm not a bad reader by any standard, and I had moments of "Huh?"
Like, for fuck's sake, something like half of Canadians are understood to be "functionally illiterate" (ie can read, but have difficulty grasping the meaning of what they're reading). This is utterly useless for communicating anything to most people, let alone those people who have the most interest in overthrowing capitalism.
Yeah. v. disappointing.

I was pretty suspicious that they did this with a kickstarter. 'Crowd sourcing' doesn't seem like diy, it feels lazy and kind of dishonest.

Havent read the pamflet but i was very unimpressed with the video they made to go along with it.

Keep in mind I am unlikely to be sympathetic to anything by CrimethInc, but the kickstarter campaign does seem remarkably, in fact laughably, cynical to me. "Don't shop - it just encourages them" "Also, buy our tat."

hit and miss
it's not terrible but it feels more like a draft than a published thing
idk, it's not bad

Crimethinc sometimes puts out a good poster or two but I haven't really read a ton by them.
They have one poster I like pretty good about the police, if I don't forget I'll post it here.
They don't seem particularly interesting in mist ways but some stuff they write is not bad.

I guess I'm easy to please (or well, I haven't read the whole thing so perhaps no right to speak).

Judging a piece of writing is opinion, anyone should feel the right to speak about theirs. I feel more inclined to read it since everyone is being so critical now

Are there any crimethinc writings people actually recommend?

This one (http://www.crimethinc.com/books/work.html) is a favourite of mine. From their download section I particularly recommend The Party is Over.
I'm always very fond of this article (http://www.crimethinc.com/texts/selected/asfuck.php). It might just be though it just was the right piece of writing for me at the right time (instead of it being something special, which it prob. isn't).

I enjoyed the sentiment of this article: Your Politics Are Boring As Fuck (http://www.crimethinc.com/texts/selected/asfuck.php)

I also always liked that article. Even though everyone hates on it I liked reading Days of War, Nights of Love. It's not the deepest introduction to an idea ever but it's enjoyable to read I think.

WORK is actually a pretty decent primer on capitalism - and actually pretty readable by people who aren't super deep into anarcho-babble.
I enjoyed "Expect Resistance" - it's appealingly post-modern in its format, but isn't excessively complicated in the writing itself. It moves at a comfortable pace. It has an engaging narrative that nicely supplements the theoretical segments. I read it aloud with an apolitical friend, and it was actually enjoyable, which isn't something that can be said for many similar "Rad Politics 101" type books.

Eugh, their latest podcast has an interview with the primitivist John Zerzan. :glare:

Crimethinc do have their anti-civ tendencies. Afterall, they published Kaczynski's manifesto. But you know, the ideas posited by them are hardly monolithic.

Oh fuck off. $20 USD says you don't understand primitivism to any meaningful extent.

I don't think you need to understand primitivism in any meaningful sense to know that John Zerzan is a wing-nut.

Zerzan doesn't seem all that crazy to me he's just an idealist

Hey friends - cute aside, but let's bring this back on track, eh?
Maybe the wingnut/moonbat thing could be continued in Chit Chat?
SO! CrimethInc.'s new pamphlet!
Has anyone seen physical copies yet? Distributed any, or been in contact with folk distributing them?

i skimmed through it just now though i stopped reading the longer pieces about halfway through. seems like a pretty gigantic step backwards tbh, it reminds me a lot of their old introductory pamphlet 'fighting for our lives' or some of the worst bits of 'days of war, nights of love.' maybe it works better as a physical copy but i'm really not impressed. nobody working 40 hours a week or more and struggling to get by gives a shit about 'liberating your desire' or whatever. all of the typical anarcho-activist images (people in masks, molotovs, etc) are played out and stupid for this kind of thing too. bummer to see them dump this kind of thing after having some decent work in rolling thunder, work and some other recent stuff.
Any freely occurring process or phenomenon—a rainforest, a circle of friends, your own body—is an anarchic harmony that persists through constant change.barf
