Inb4 western imperialist propaganda

Honestly, it doesn't surprise me at all.
Russia is following a path of total reaction. The rampant anti-modernism and nationalism established itself in all classes, völkisch structures are emerging. The russian nation against the western decadent culture and zionist-masonic influence in politics.
Welp

It doesn't surprise me either, and I don't think it's "imperialist propaganda" because the average person in the imperial metropole couldn't give a toss about what's happening to trans* people in Russia. I also don't think it's some sort of "incipient fascism", but garden-variety bourgeois family-mongering.

Some years ago, I saw a TV prog about a group of what can only be described as Putin personality cultists, except this was a "youth group" preaching physical fitness, armbands, and the duty of girls to have children for the motherland.

While I have not seen much about them since, the similarities with the Hitler Youth were quite striking.

the scariest thing to me isn't even that this is the law now, but that it's a law that a lot of them probably think doesn't go far enough

Condemned the move that sounds soooo fucking effective. Does that actually do anything? Or is that exactly what it sounds like? If it doesn't do anything, I don't see why it's necessary to include that. It seems almost insulating even. Lol

Question for Putin: How come Russia has so may accidents? Is it:

A) The poorly maintained roads, widespread alcoholism and corrupt traffic cops, or
B) The transvestites and compulsive gamblers?

Putin: "Hmm that's a tough one. I'm gonna go with B."

Putler

Just remember what a monster Saddam was in the 90s - while it was the US who said .5 million dead Iraqi kids were a worthy price for the US to "pay" to enforce a no-fly zone and crippling sanctions.

Comparisons to Hitler simply aren't meaningful in this case.

This is more likely reasonable:

Russia is today an example of a crushed nation trying to shudder to "glory" again. My impression is that its politics are more identifiable with some of the weaker Euro states rife with corruption & having weak democratic institutions.

This is an example of internal Russian propaganda. I don't think anyone buys the argument; it comes off as more of a narcissistic flourish for Putin: "look what I can say with a straight face." That is, if it is even Putin to personally blame for this. Internal political pressures & the Duma have their own momentum which is largely ignored in reporting on Russian affairs.

Yeah, I get the impression this stuff is carried along by a significant degree of public support in Russia. The extent to which the media machine manufactures that consensus is a whole different kettle of fish.

Sad times. I dread to think what Putin would do if the Russian economy actually started to boom & Russia started to get some global sway.

His regime likely wouldn't survive, or would have to moderate itself heavily. Characters like Putin are legitimized courtesy of foreign hostility and national isolation.

This is a prohibition of people with mental illness driving right? with trans people considered mentally ill?

While i don't want to derail from the transphobia in Russia i do wonder exactly what is covered by the legislation and to what extent the driving laws in Russia are ableist.
