View Full Version : Shaky hello

An uncertain hello to all. I joined today, after spending time lurking. Just one possible problem... I currently consider myself a liberal, not a communist. Am I allowed to be on this site with that view? I originally discovered this site by mistake, the 'left' in the name misleading me into believing that this was a site for ALL things left-wing (from centre-left all the way to far-left). After spending time lurking, I soon discovered my error, and realised that this was actually a site for communists. But I still felt like joining just to learn about the viewpoints of people here, and to see whether they might change my views.
I'm a working-class female person of colour (an Arab, to be specific, so I certainly know what it's like to experience racism in a world that currently thinks "argh, Arabs are all terrorists, even if they aren't religious!") and socially liberal (I'm Pro-Choice, Pro-LGBT rights, Pro-Egalitarianism, Anti-Patriarchy etc.), but don't have much knowledge of economic issues. I don't know much about how communism and liberalism differ. I'd like to learn more. Am I allowed to be here, or is my admission to being a liberal going to get me instantly restricted/banned?

Welcome :)
If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!
If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.
Full blown liberals are pro-capitalism and are therefore restricted. This is nothing personal and we'll have to see about you ;)

Do you know that communists are the most liberal and broad minded people in the world. We 'saw' them all: prostitution, beggary, exploitation, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, Beatles, Mardigras, electoral cheating, etc. They're flexible too but resilient when called upon to be polite in social functions. I don't know with narrow minded Conservatives. You'll probably be insulted if you reveal yourself to one.

Of you're just learning I dont think they will restrict you, that's more for the people who actively argue in support of capitalism

Well, that's cleared up then. I'm off to explore the rest of the site. Thank you for not immediately restricting my liberal behind
Oh, one more question: are people allowed to use profanity of any nature here? I wanted to use a word that's a bit stronger than 'behind' just there

(Oh, one more question: is profanity of any nature permitted here? Because I wanted to use a word that's a bit stronger than 'behind' just there ).

That depends. While there isn't an officially adopted "banned words list", my experience is that American liberal sensitivities apply here (which is ironical considering). If you cross that line, you'll face warnings, etc.

From my experience nothing is done against people who say things of the style of 'fuck you', "you're a moron", or even quite elaborately and repeatedly insult other people in such a manner, but calling someone a 'nigger', for instance, would get you banned. 'shit', 'crap', 'fuck', etc. are completely allowed, I believe.

Yeah, I made a thread on that, saying that 'moron' (as well as 'idiot') is not that dissimilar from 'retarded'. But all I was saying here is that 'moron' is generally accepted here, which it is - different from 'retarded', which is more shunned upon.
And yeah, I'm aware this is not a serious post.

Hmmm... in reality a lot of communists are social conservatives.
