Apparently one of the top five Google searches in my state, indiana, is communism, although it's a very conservative state

Oh yeah, I remember reading this information which said that people in countries where homosexuals are most oppressed are the ones who search the most for gay porn.

I kind of have a feeling it has to do with some sort of pick-your-communist-figure that kids have to write an essay about at some point.

It means that even though what communism is has been grossly distorted in Cuban state propaganda and its lip service to Cuban workers, the pretense of being "Communist" at least motivates some curiosity about what this actually means beyond the sloganeering. At least that's an optimistic way of looking at it, but it makes sense that people who hear that word thrown around in a certain tone frequently would want to learn more by accessing information themselves.

lol, I have no idea why you would think that. Throughout the Eastern bloc Marxism-Leninism and dialectical materialism was widely propagated in education, and the masses didn't take the capitalist reforms lying down, they actively fought for them.
(And of course, more accurately, liberal-capitalist reforms).

i barely even remember that state exists most of the time
only interesting thing i could find. apparently texas has a lot of interest in friedrich engels, though, and the map for "anarchism" is literally a map of "which states vote democrat"
