I think A Perfect Circle is a cool band, I have both their albums, but I honestly prefer Tool. APC have some really cool mellow-ish songs, and some okay heavy-ish riffs, but I find the heavy-riffs and weird (can't think of word) of Tool is much more cool. APC has changed band members several times too, with the new band member formerly from Smashing Pumpkins touring as part of APC, but does not even appear on their lastest album.

I say APC should not become a full-time project like Maynard has claimed, but rather remain as a side project.

What do you guys think?

Anyone here into any similar metal?

A perfect Circle are good, but I'm a big tool fan, and I will always prefer tool ever since I got Aenima, which is a truly fantastic CD, and I love the song Sober...

Maynard rocks...

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

i love a perfect circle and personaly think they are a hell of a lot better than tool, ive got both there albums and on monday im going to go see them in southampton, and auf der maur is gonna open for them

James Iha didnt join the band until after they had recorded thirteenth step, when troy van leuwen (however its spelt) left to go on tour with Queens of the Stoneage

I like APC loads, but I admit I've never properly listened to any Tool, so I can't really judged. however I reckon he should stick with Tool more, since he doesn't have an awful lot of creative input in APC.

I don't think that either band is better than the other. The radio is dominated by tool down here it seems like though.

Woah, L Ron Hubbard is mentioned is that song. I went to his museum not too long ago. What a weirdo.

A Perfect Circle's good, but Tool's better. But of course A Perfect Circle's a side-project of Tool, just as Tool is a side-project of A Perfect Circle. Whenever a person is a member of two groups simultaniously, that makes it a side-project. Not that they aren't both separate bands. They are certainly separate. But that's what makes them side-projects. </my two cents>

i never did get someone else to come with us but we managed to sell the ticket while we were there so it was ok, and a perfect circle were amazing, Billy Howerdals solo was great, they are better than Tool

Before anyone goes defending A Perfect Circle, listen to some of the solo bullshit by James Iha he's shit without Billy Corgan. APC have sucked since Judith in my mind which is their only great song Tool are one of the rare bands to make it really big and break free of genre while creating their own, APC is a pathetic mimic of what a great sound. I don't care if Maynard is in APC the other members ruin it. Hass anyone seen Maynard's performance in a Z grade movie where he plays the devil?

<_< god have you even listened to them admitadely he doesn't play as good he plays different stuff and is pretty much overshadowed by Billy Howerdal who pretty much does the solos for apc, but he still plays amazingly for apc.
thirteenth step is not better than mer de noms but is in no way worse than it they are very different, and if belive that thirteenth step is not as good as mer de noms and you blame James Iha for it, you are pretty much admiting that you know nothing about the new album

tools usual stuff and apc's mer de noms are similar in the way that there mellow but heavy at the same time and that is what makes them so great, thirteenth step just isnt as heavy

I don't think 'Mer de noms' is as heavy as stereotypical Tool. I also think their second album '13th Step' is better than their first, but is lacking some heavy riffs overall.

This might just be my opinion, but APC seem to be TOO experimental with their music. Sure it is good to experiment, but not to have it lose cohension.

Compare the reviews of APC's albums (http://rollingstone.com/artists/recordings.asp?oid=10635) and Tool's albums (http://rollingstone.com/artists/recordings.asp?oid=93).
