The Governor of Missouri has declared a state of emergency (http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=yrESi2iEjS%2BXyUcP388%2BIx%2FVpCrq7VbP) and activated the National Guard, even before a grand jury decision on the indictment of Darren Wilson, the cop who murdered unarmed Black youth Michael Brown over 100 days ago (CNN story here (http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=LaWRZY0mXXnUMdXeXo2hxx%2FVpCrq7VbP)). Who is preparing for violence?! The real state of emergency in Ferguson, in Chicago, and throughout this country is the wanton murder of Black and Brown people by the police, with impunity, and the military-style suppression of communities taking to the streets to demand justice. Yes, #AllLivesMatter and we will not stop until this slaughter stops. It is completely illegitimate to deploy the National Guard or any other type of repressive police force against protesters!

MO Governor Nixon declares state of emergency, troops heading to Ferguson

FRSO urges protests in response to grand jury decision on killer cop

St. Louis, MO – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency. According to reports, the National Guard is heading to Ferguson. Citing the “possibility of expanded unrest,” government authorities are moving to contain the expected massive protests that will result if the grand jury fails to indict the white cop who killed Mike Brown, an African American youth.

The August 9 shooting of Mike Brown by Officer Darren Wilson sparked a rebellion in Ferguson, a predominantly Black community, and an extended wave of protests.

Steff Yorek, the Political Secretary of Freedom Road Socialist Organization, is urging activists to organize or participate in protests responding to the grand jury verdict and to demand justice for Mike Brown.

“We need to be ready to take to the streets,” stated Yorek. “There is an epidemic of police violence against African American, Chicano, Latino and other oppressed nationalities in the U.S. Enough is enough.”

The state of emergency in the Ferguson area will be in effect for up to 30 days.

the Grand Jury is deciding whether or not they will send Darren Wilson to trial next week. We all know what will happen if they don't pass him over for whatever reason, but until punishment is given to the criminal I doubt the situation in Ferguson is going to calm down anytime soon. I live in St. Louis, and my school plans to cancel school next week if the Grand Jury does not pass in fear of increased protesting. And I even live in cozy white middle class West County. Good. The system will fall victim to those it oppresses.

Early yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Grant Newburger and two other protesters were arrested as they peacefully stepped into the street with a banner that said "Justice for Mike Brown!" at the intersection of Jackson and State in the Loop. Grant was attacked and injured by the police, and as of this writing, is facing an unknown felony charge. This is totally outrageous and illegitimate.

Darren Wilson murdered Michael Brown in cold blood, walks free and has full state authority and endorsement to continue “doing his job”, and a gun on his hip to do it. And Grant, a leader of the protests in Chicago against this outrage, is in jail. THIS MUST STOP!
