So I've been thinking lately and I want to ask a question about double standards to the people on this website.

First off, I think we need to fight double standards and 'reverse discrimination' and whatever else. I think these are cancerous and harmful to society. Sure, maybe on the inside I think it would be fun to get 'revenge' or whatever on heterosexuals but it just isn't logical. It's generalizing, and also blaming someone for what their ancestors did does not make any sense either.

I am going to ask a ridiculous question, but do you think if a black man murdered a white man the prison sentence should automatically be less harsh than if a white man murdered a black man? If I get any 'yes' answers to that question I will lose all faith in humanity....

It is definitely true that the white man has the advantage in today's world. And it's been that way for a long time. Same with heterosexuals, Christians, etc. ethnic minorities, Queers, Muslim people, Atheists etc. are all minorities who are at a disadvantage in society at the moment. But reverse discrimination shouldn't be the answer for any of these people. Come on! It's pure hypocrisy.

There is no such thing as 'reverse discrimination'. There is only discrimination. People who believe in 'reverse discrimination' are generalizing, which is an indicator of stupidity. You can't just say 'black people this' or 'black people that' and you can't just say 'white people this' or 'white people that'. You cannot generalize and say every single person who has a certain skin color does 'this' or 'that'. That is actually racism by definition. Advocates of 'reverse discrimination' are actually racists themselves.

Guys, this isn't how we stop bigotry. Anyway you want to spin it, replacing bigotry with bigotry won't solve the problem, because there will still be bigotry. If the goal is to end bigotry, then why do we want to replace it with a different kind of bigotry? It's an insane double standard. Pure hypocrisy.

Of course Queers, ethnic minorities and any group that is discriminated against should organize and try to stop bigotry, but the answer is not more bigotry.

I think you've woefully misinterpreted the majority of people on this site if you think they support some sort of 'reverse' discrimination (or whatever). Most people on this site recognise discrimination comes from the structural problems of class society and recognise that simple band-aids don't stop the infection in the wound, as it were.

With the exception of some whacked-out Third-Worldists who post revenge fantasies about the Amerikkkan labour aristokkkracy being forced into concentration camp (and these get restricted or banned anyway), people who seem to advocate "reverse discrimination" on RevLeft do so tongue firmly in cheek. Many people react to any discussion of bigotry and structural discrimination by accusing the person who brought the subject up of being anti-white, anti-Christian, anti-heterosexual, anti-whatever. Others imply - this is often done with the best of intentions but it's ignorant - that a black person saying mean things about a white person is the same as the black person having a much, much higher chance of being impoverished, incarcerated or killed. And if you disagree, then you're portrayed as being, you guessed it, anti-white, anti-yaddayaddayadda. So people take these accusations and run with them, lampooning the entire mindset in the process. That's the story behind my "Proud heterophobe" user title from yonks ago, and that's probably the story behind e.g. Quail's "hysterical man-hater" user title.

Most black people are poor... that's not racist, it's just a fact. They are disadvantaged due to institutionalized racism among other structural, institutional issues, so any policy that gives them a helping hand wherever possible is certainly not reverse racism, and while being a band-aid on a flesh wound solution, is still the best we have in the short term.

I don't think all black people are poor - the current jailer-in-chief of American imperialism, as the SL call him ever so lovingly, is a pretty well-off black person. But black workers are structurally discriminated against, which results in lower average wages and a higher chance of being impoverished. I don't think pointing this out is racist, any more than it's homophobic to point out queer youth are more likely to have problems with poverty and homelessness.

Affirmative action is a bandage on a gaping wound, but to black workers it sometimes means a lot.
