Ok so in my world civilization class we have an assignment that's basically just redo the town how I see fit. I of course, picked communism and plan on trying to educate the students as much as possible before my possibly right libertarian teacher shuts me down. I need to:

Describe the form of government (there's no government in communism but they're going by the "Oh no dictatorship!" Definition

Be able to define it
Explain why it's good for society
Explain What'd we'd change about it (like infrastructure, restaurants or whatever the fuck)

And besides my teacher attempting to shoot me down that's it.

Can anyone help me? I'm awful at this sort of thing.

You ever hear about the Ukrainian Free Territory? I'd recommend that! It had no government, it was very much so anarchistic in how it was set up as free peasant soviets.

My question is: When is it due?

I don't think that Anarchism is allowed. Their options were: democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, tyrant, socialism, fascism and communism. I wanna show them what communism actually is.

We present on Wednesday and I have two partners who have no clue about political theory at all.

Go with Communism and go with Cuba. Show how Cuba has the best medical field in Latin America, has no poverty, and so on. Cuba may not be communist, but it's significantly better than VietNam, PRC, DPRK, and so on. You could also find a way to illustrate how Cuba is in fact capitalist in nature and point out what communism should really be at least from your perspective. I haven't done a project like this in a long time and last I did it I picked the USSR in it's early days because I knew quite a bit on that then back in 2009

Alright thanks! It's like 15 slides in a powerpoint so I'm going to do my idea then look at attempted application (if you can call it that) in cuba. Do you have any resources for cuba or anything?

US education is pathetic.

I don't have any resources at the time, but a Google search and Wikipedia (Beware the information you get their) can provide decent information at times. Want me to do some clean up of your work on the PP Presentation? I've worked on a lot of PP Presentations in college and have made several.

@redworker, agreed! As a freshman in high school I can say that it's awful.
@ Mistress Sinistra, Any help would be appreciated and thank you. :)

Attempted application of communism? I'd look more at the Russian or Spanish revolution, not at a social-bourgeois coup (Cuba). Talk about the workers' state, the soviet democracy. Spanish Revolution can be less cliche and more interesting. Or how about Makhno, various other soviet republics, etc? There's a lot of interesting examples in history.

Yeah I thought about the Spanish revolution. What about the Paris commune?

Why not just do democracy? Democracy needn't be liberal "democracy".

EDIT: Paris Commune could work.

Eh, opportunity to get the interested students thinking.

Plus I may or may not want to humiliate my anti communist teacher

It sometimes doesn't get students thinking: "Oh my! I think s/he has a point on this communism idea!" In my experiences it lead the children in their cliques to do a wonderful thing called groupthink, where faulty decisions were made and they all think you're stupid because they can't wrap their unawakened minds around statelessness and classlessness. This isn't meant to be discouraging. I'm trying to say keep your message concise and thought provoking, don't be like myself and be all "IN YOUR FACE: COMMUNISM" Try to set it up so that it makes people think that their is definitely a better way we could all be living together.

I've attempted humiliating my teachers only to have their creatures, their preferred students, be very cruel to me for being different than their little group of pro capitalist liberals

*sighs* alright.

I'll skip that part then.

Just that right there sounds pretty horrible. What is "tyrant" supposed to mean, or "democracy", well democracy is probably just capitalist liberal democracy, but still, these terms are pretty vague.

Yeah apparently the definition they give for tyrants is someone who takes power by force  and they probably mean capitalist "democracy" for the democracy definition.

Question for your teacher: Does imprisoning more people than any other nation in human history constitute rule by force?

Also, seeing as Hitler won an election, does that excuse him from classification as a tyrant?

It's quite possible that your teacher won't shut you down. I mean, this was a slightly different period and an entirely different state, but I once got the entire class to vote for immediately annexing (early modern) Croatia to the Austrian Empire (this was a mock debate between "representatives" of various historical parties, I got the Independent People's Party).

Just try to be subtle. I.e. show that communism would be pretty pleasant to live in, don't explicitly say so.

You could talk about soviets or sections - make the parallel to the Paris Commune. Then, talk about how infrastructure and economic activity would be planned. About a workers' militia. Communisation of housework (you can mention that the original restaurants were in that vein). That's how I would approach it at least.

@OP

I (and I'm sure others) would love to hear a report-back on how this went! What was useful, what wasn't? Did any of your peers approach you to chat further? Etc.
