Many thought it was impossible but it appears the militants of the Islamic state are poised to overrun Baghdad and take power from the Amerikan puppets. The horror. The horror.
What this development poses for the future of the Middle East one can only fear.

ISIS has yet to show that they can take an hold a metropolis with millions of inhabitants, over half of whom are from a religious community they want to wipe out. Not to mention, Iranian-backed Shiite militias will fight that much harder to hold the line around Baghdad and Southern Iraq.

I've just looked on the news, and can't see anything that says anything about this. I did see mention of ISIS taking the town of Kubaisa, but that is over 100 miles from Baghdad.

Red Terror Dr.,
As a bit of advice not only from a moderator, but also a fellow forumer, if you want people to participate in a lively discussion you should post the link to your story. Especially when the claim made would be breaking news worldwide and hasn't been reported by any major news sites.

I don't have 25 posts yet to post any links. Google the following phrase:

"isis one mile from Baghdad"

Look carefully at the results and you'll see links to u.k. dailymail & ny dailynews, independent.co.uk and others. I saw the original link in an article on counterpunch. There are a couple youtube links too. One from Fox news --- maybe just fearmongering from Fox but worth a look in light of the counterpunch article.

Looks sketchy, one of their sources is a Facebook post from an Anglican priest in the city. Counterpunch posts some unreliable stuff, after Libya fell to NATO they kept posting all these shit articles about a pro-Gaddafi resistance that was constantly on the verge of taking the country back over again, in spite of it never materializing

On this subject though... would ISIS actually be interested in taking Baghdad? SCM mentions how it would be a lot harder than their other battles and it would it really serve their strategic interests? I have no doubt that ISIS have sleeper cells in Baghdad right now that they could be activating if they want but they probably have more interest in keeping the city isolated than actually going in to full scale conflict with it.

Do you really think it's appropriate to sarcastically remark "the horror, the horror" in the face of ethnic cleansing? It seems you are trying too hard to portray yourself as authentic revolutionary by attacking the USA. But this infantile anti-Americanism has no place in authentic communist politics. And Baghdad would be an Iranian puppet first.
