Also, unemployment doesn't count the under employed and those working under the table. I like to look at the employment/population ratio from the BLS myself. It's probably the most unbiased number they put out.

Things are improving--but only slightly. Another problem is the quality of jobs. Are you adding 10,000 $15/hr jobs or 10,000 $7/hr jobs? Unemployment doesn't tell you that--neither does the aforementioned ratio.

Even if the press used these statistics accurately, they would still serve no useful purpose the way that the news would be using them.
