A major part of the Marxists Internet Archive today comes from the USSR's Progress Publishers, as well as from East Germany, etc. Is it possible that they modified or manipulated the words of Marx, Engels, and Lenin? It is also very possible that many of the texts available today from other sources are based on the Progress Publishers editions, whether it is specified or not.

So far it seems there was at least some known interference (http://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/note.htm).

Progress Publishers translated more marxist works into more languages than basically anyone ever had or has. I've never heard of purposeful manipulation of Marx, et al, on Progress' part.

Editors routinely make decisions to exclude content depending on publishing constraints as well as what kind of purpose their work is meant to be, in the case of this particular publisher this means their ideological inclinations as well as how they chose to interpret the writings in endnotes and summaries placed before it, as the note from MIA points out.

I do not think there is a willful attempt to twist or manipulate writings to suit their perspective though. The only problem I have with these publishers in general is that they tend to be really overprotective of their copyright since it's pretty much the way they survive now, especially in the case of these USSR-linked publishing houses who had formerly received assistance to offset operating costs.
