Not necessarily to tears but that last book (novel, biography, poetry, whatever) that stirred you emotionally?

Just finished 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup; profound sadness through most of it and genuine excitement towards the conclusion (not a spoiler to mention he is eventually free but your heart does flutter when you see it's coming at last). I'll definately watch the film now if only to see how these people are portrayed.

Even though incredibly anti-communist, Norwegian Wood is a story that brought me to tears. The ending made me wish that I never made the time or effort to go through the book, but isn't that what suicide and loneliness often is?

Another novel that gave me the feels was Maria Watches Over Us which is about lesbian relationships in a Japanese Catholic School. Very moving, yet simple romance novel that explores even gay, trans, and even has some very strong feminist themes.

Fathers and Sons by Turgenev really moved me emotionally, especially the part where Bazarov lay dying and his old folks were pleading with him on his deathbed. I cried. The poor old parents we have. It's sad. It makes me think about my family.

[Edit]

"A Clockwork Orange" made laugh very much. I recommend it to those who want some fun.

"Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" is another book that moved me emotionally.

Laugh and joy is definitely great emotion and it gave me "Er ist wieder da" ("He's back again") by Timur Vermes.
It's story about a Hitler moved in time from the end of WWII to 2010 or 2011. It shows all absurdities of today capitalism especially in its German version.
And this book moved me to tears.. of laughing.
