I'm new to the forum, so I figured this would be a good place to start. I've known about RevLeft for four or five years now, but can't say I've been a regular lurker. From time to time, I've stumbled across some useful information on here when searching for various topics, but I haven't really looked at the site too closely until the last couple days. So, forgive me if it takes me a little while to figure out exactly how things work around here.
I'll tell you a little bit about myself and my politics. I'm from the United States and am a recent university graduate. I'm not much of an activist (to say the least), but I used to be fairly engaged in these types of online discussions--in various formats. I haven't been very active in any capacity for most of the past year, so I'm hoping this forum will change that in some way.
I've had a strong interest in Cuba since I was 16 or 17 years old, so I originally came into anti-capitalist politics through a practical position of support for the Cuban Revolution. My viewpoints are, therefore, necessarily colored by those origins. I could probably be classified loosely as a Marxist-Leninist, but it's easiest to just say that I'm a communist--in the direct sense that I'm an advocate of communism.
In addition to my pro-Cuban Revolution stance, I've also become particularly interested in and inspired by the Bolivarian Revolution in recent years, so that's had a fairly significant influence on my politics as well. And, for what it's worth, I've probably read more Mao than any other anti-capitalist thinker outside of Fidel Castro, so I'm sure there are some Maoist tendencies sprinkled in there somewhere too.
In any case, I look forward to getting to know everyone on the site. :cubaflag:
