I'm new to the forum, so I figured this would be a good place to start. I've known about RevLeft for four or five years now, but can't say I've been a regular lurker. From time to time, I've stumbled across some useful information on here when searching for various topics, but I haven't really looked at the site too closely until the last couple days. So, forgive me if it takes me a little while to figure out exactly how things work around here.

I'll tell you a little bit about myself and my politics. I'm from the United States and am a recent university graduate. I'm not much of an activist (to say the least), but I used to be fairly engaged in these types of online discussions--in various formats. I haven't been very active in any capacity for most of the past year, so I'm hoping this forum will change that in some way.

I've had a strong interest in Cuba since I was 16 or 17 years old, so I originally came into anti-capitalist politics through a practical position of support for the Cuban Revolution. My viewpoints are, therefore, necessarily colored by those origins. I could probably be classified loosely as a Marxist-Leninist, but it's easiest to just say that I'm a communist--in the direct sense that I'm an advocate of communism.

In addition to my pro-Cuban Revolution stance, I've also become particularly interested in and inspired by the Bolivarian Revolution in recent years, so that's had a fairly significant influence on my politics as well. And, for what it's worth, I've probably read more Mao than any other anti-capitalist thinker outside of Fidel Castro, so I'm sure there are some Maoist tendencies sprinkled in there somewhere too.

In any case, I look forward to getting to know everyone on the site. :cubaflag:

Hello. I'm The Jay and I am not in any cool bands. I am; however, a smooth operator and will answer questions in a serious manner detached from the manner in which I opened this post.

I hope you make the jump from "Marxism-Leninism" to Marxism.

Seriously, how do you think you're helping when you do this?

Well, a lot of people are searching for answers and are certainly not settled on their ideas. Whether this particular angle of engagement is useful is another thing, but certainly this forum exists for opinions to clash.

To Q,

It is true that this forum is the place for different views to have it out, and that's a good thing. My understanding was that the introductions forum was not the part of the forum best suited to that.

Regardless, RedWorker is just being a weasel. Looking through his posts, the vast majority of what he has to say is simply reminding everyone in a given thread that he has a problem with "Stalinism." It rarely goes beyond that.
