Intresting but obviously controversial article on those few times rape accusations are indeed false, how often they happen and why they hurt the struggle against rape culture.
Trigger warnings should be a given for this hence why i also only provide a link and not copy the article;

Extra trigger warning, do not read thefucking comments as they are obviously swamped with disgusting mra types running with a very selective reading of the article. Urgh, i need brain bleach after reading only the first page of comments.

Not even gonna read this fucked up shit (the author wrote a book that is partly about
"the myth of gender difference" has allowed feminists to continue to see women as victims", stfu you douchebag pseudo-equalist moron). We live in a culture that rather cries "false accusation" than in one that immediately believes the victim. You see that on social media, in police investigations, at court, even within victim's families, so wtf is this article even necessary? It's a waste of time and human ressources. It suggests that the two sides are equally weighted, while actually, most people believe that false accusations are way more prevalent than they really are. This is why reporting statistics are so fucked up and such articles don't help at all in improving societal behavior against victims. If you ask people crying about FA, most of them don't even know ONE example, be it from media or from their own surroundings. I'm not saying at all that FA don't exist, and I'm not gonna defend anyone that perpetuated a FA, but a common reason behind that is that we live in a culture where women are not allowed to enjoy their sexuality, where they are shamed for sex that deviates from "intimate encounter with your long term-bf". Having said that, I take false accusations very seriously, but they won't go away with articles like these (yeah, in the meanwhile, I've read it) that are a very welcome bait for MRA jerks and dickhead. They'd rather go away if we stopped shaming women for expressing their sexuality. Yeah this was a pretty random rant and I'm having a bad day, sorry.

Well false accusations of all crimes exist, and it would be terrible to get discredited that way. People who make false accusations of any crime should be held to account (outside of extenuating circumstances), but it is interesting that the mere existence of false accusations is so widely used to discredit victims in a way unheard of with other crimes. That and the fact that rape carries social stigma makes someone less likely to use it as a false accusation. Those who make false accusations into some kind of faux epidemic are utterly ridiculous.
Incidentally, one of the bigger race riots in American history in Tulsa started over what was probably a false rape allegation against a black man, but it was angry white men fanning the flames, not the victim. In fact, I never saw any evidence that the victim ever actually said it was assault, as far as I know it was just white men who heard her scream.
