Hey RevLeft, I'm new here as you can see. Where to begin...

First off, I live in the United States, in a majorly conservative state. I'm also in my senior year of high school and am in an economics class that severely misrepresents every economic theory except for free-market capitalism, which can be frustrating at times. Thirdly, my parents and brother are devout Republicans who would likely gasp in horror if I told them I was any more left than the Democrats. For this reason, I'm what some would call a "closeted leftist." Clearly not a safe haven for my kind of thinking. I will admit, though, that it is getting better! More people here are starting to see terms like "socialist," "Marxist," "communist," etc. as legitimate political descriptions rather than insults as they have been in the media and such for decades. Could be because the income gap is widening; could be because the systematic mistreatment of the working class by corporations is finally starting become obvious to the general public; I frankly have no clue. Either way, thanks to that, alongside communities like reddit and others, I'm finally starting to feel like I'm a part of a movement that won't necessarily be squashed under misinformation and propaganda. I figured here on RevLeft I could have talks with people who think the same way I do without cappies coming in left and right and quoting Thomas Jefferson.

Eeeeee, nope, that's pretty much it.
