Is there a difference between suicide bombing and tank shells, grenades, smart bombs etc.?
I don't think there is and yet the media "condemn" the actions of suicide bombers all the time.
But they never condemn the actions of normal bombings as vigorously. Is there something more destructive about suicide bombings or is it just not cricket old boy?
Is there an ethical problem in it?

I think it's the whole, "it's not particularly sporting, old chap", attitude. It's also the blind fear that surrounds it, people now a days in the sphere that we live for won't willing die for much and the fact that some people will scares them. It's like with the Japanese suicide pilots.
I think it may also have something to do with the fact that it is close quarters and the damage is right there and not on a radar or computer screen. It's in your face and you see the blood and guts. I don't think that you can really distinguish between two acts of militancy but people still find a way to do it, mainly because of the media.

Yes I think the whole "Rules of war" etc... are to make it seem as if war can somehow be done humanely if only done by the rules.

Also maybe the fact the suc bombers targer civilians most of the time, which generates fear among civilians, and it is on this fear that the media plays on

Its all about the western media thats makes the victim a killer , and the killer a victim ....
today i watched a documentary program on bbc , talking about how the israeli settlers are sad becoz of the intafada and how it damaged the settlment process !!
talking like its some peaceful nice city , and not mentioning that its built on illegal land ...... land that has been took from other ppl and homes built on the ash of other ppl's homes .

There's also a stigma left on suicide in western society(maybe in other societies, I just don't know enough about them) left over from its heavy and widespread religionization under Christianity.

I mean, look what the British did in their illegal settlement of Ireland. The North is still an illegally occupied statelet, and whether the Brits be there for fifty yeas, a hundred years or even eight hundred years, it doesn't make it any more justified.

Another reason why people are more appalled by it is, almost every night on the news you see planes dropping bombs and we have been almost numbed by it. We do not see the immediate damage and the civillian losses, only a sterilised computer image from a briefing screen.
But with suicide bombing it is more of a rarity and does not happen on such a regular basis. So when it does more of an issue is made of it, and because of how immediate and unsterilised the images are. A guided bomb does far more damage but we just don't see it so people think that it doesn't happen.
