Hi everyone! My name is Jimi, and I am 18 years old and still in high school.
My dad has influenced me a lot, as he is an idealistic political writer and speaker who expresses very radical ideas. I love the idea of this forum, where like-minded people can have meaningful conversation. It's communities like these that reassure me that I'm not crazy for what I believe in.
You could say I'm one of those stereotypical rebellious teenagers. I have a diet: I never eat food from corporations I hate. I'm a feminist. I hate the practice of using GMOs. I support civil disobedience, and downright criminal acts that disrupt "order", as long as they don't involve hurting people.
My beliefs started to develop back when I was a child and I hated school. My dad supported that feeling in me, so I followed it, read some books, explored different viewpoints, and settled on the one I have now.
I want to label myself as an anarchist, but I don't feel educated enough on the subject to identify as that just yet. I might change my mind once I read into it more, who knows? Though my views are definitely far on the left side, obviously.
I'm here to talk to people who can help influence me and guide my beliefs to something more solid, something I can defend well, so I can be more open and confident with others when discussing it. I want to educate myself about leftist beliefs, particularly anarchism.
Thank you for reading! I hope I like y'all! Have a wonderful day.
- Jimi

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

I'm more against the practice of using GMOs than genetic modification in itself. Monsanto is a totally evil company. They make their crops resistant to herbicide, then spray it everywhere to kill off the weeds. Seems like a good idea, but then the weeds evolve into "superweeds", which are resistant. So the response is stronger herbicide and pesticide. Now their pesticide is so strong that it's impossible to completely wash out of the food.
Another point, though I can't defend it nearly as well, is that genetically modifying crops makes genetic patters that are impossible to be found in nature. That can result in unexpected adverse effects in humans, I believe. Especially over generations. It's also just a scary thought.
I'm not an expert, but the community in which I grew up and with which I surround myself shares my views on them. I love local foods, and I hate supporting corporations as it is, so I avoid GMOs at all costs.

Recognising where you can learn more, as where we can all learn more is an intelligent cautious approach. Other than that enjoy high school if you can and keep talking and discussing with people. May I recommend 'Demanding the Impossible by Peter Marshall' as a hefty book introducing a variety of anarchist trends. Noam Chomsky is a popular anarchist writer too, have you read any of his books?
