Through the years I have often mentioned the book "the end of Judaism; an ethical tradition betrayed" as one of the defining books that shaped my thoughts on nationalism, Zionism and the legacy of cultural reform Judaism.
Sadly its writer Hajo G. Meyer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajo_Meyer) died yesterday in his sleep at the age of 90.
Through the years I met Hajo a couple of times and while these meetings often resulted in heated discussions on the finer points, I remember them as great examples of the Jewish tradition of learning through discussion he held so high.
May he rest in peace, זיכרונו לברכה
