Starting with a march on Saturday the 30th of August, there's a week of action to try and counter the NATO summit that's taking place in Newport, Wales on the 4th and 5th of September. There might be some interesting things happening and I'm particularly interested in the counter-summits taking place for three days after the march. There could be some interesting discussion but unfortunately I doubt I can make it personally due to other commitments. It is a particularly interesting thing to rally around due to the current conflicts taking place in Palestine and the Ukraine, exacerbated by the member states of NATO. And also the horrible working and living conditions forced upon us by neoliberalism and the irrationality of spending huge sums of wealth on military gear etc. Hopefully something positive can be had out of the discussion and it'd be good to have a radical intervention in these summits particularly to ensure that no-one denounces violence.
More information can be found on http://www.nonatonewport.org and I should at least be able to make the Saturday march so I'll be there with me old red flag. There's a slight warning that it's possible that the cops will be stopping and turning away mini-buses and the like if they're full of protesters so train travel seems to be the answer. Here's the timetable of planned events:
Saturday, 30 August
11:00 - March Against NATO
Sunday, 31 August
10:00 - Counter Summit Conference
Monday, 1 September
10:00 - Newport Alternative Summit
Tuesday, 2 September
10:00 - Newport Alternative Summit
Wednesday, 3 September
No subject
Thursday, 4 September
09:00 - Oppose the NATO Summit
12:00 - March on the Celtic Manor
Friday, 5 September
18:00 - Final day of NATO Summit
