I think the greatest ongoing struggle in the West is endured by the student who must endure meaningless work for mere access to school property, only then to be taught by someone with an agenda.

How do you think this is burden justified? What would it cost to eliminate this burden in the present system, and what would it cost in yours?

I'm definitely hopeful of things like MOOCs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_open_online_course), open badges, etc. The website https://www.edx.org/ seems to be the most promising thing I've seen in the area of free higher education.
