View Full Version : What could I do with unneeded income?

I am currently a university student in Canada living on 12 dollars an hour, much more than what most people in the world make. Although it can be difficult, I am able to make ends meet, and I enjoy a minimalistic lifestyle.

My ultimate career goal is to be a speech-language pathologist. I am going into this field because I am passionate about it, but it also happens to pay a fairly high wage. When I finish my Master's, I can expect a starting wage of $32-40 dollars/hour. I know I don't need this much money.

I have recently started to identify as a communist (though I am still a beginner). I have begun to realize how money and economic inequality have brutally subjugated the majority of people in the world. As someone who will probably never need to worry about money myself, I would like to use mine to help others somehow. However, it seems kind of counterintuitive to use money to ameliorate a problem that money has created. Is there any way to do this?

I think you'd be better off 'ameliorating' the problems of modern capitalism by putting your speech-language pathology career to positive use. You will almost assuredly need the money you make during your working life and later on when you are unable to work. I'm sure things are slightly better in Canada but there are almost no safety nets in the US for elderly people.

Put your life to work to making things better, not your money (however much you can actually afford). You will find this much more rewarding and, in my opinion, more useful.

You could begin to build elaborate bird houses and reptile terrariums. Or perhaps a community garden project? Idk, donate to a charity. Rich folk love charities.
