Hello to all, or "Moien" as they say in my native country of Luxembourg.

Luxembourg might not be a place where you'd expect a strong left presence, but there is a left party called "Déi Lénk", which I am a member of and was also a candidate for the last national elections in October 2013. In the Eastern district, where I was on the list, we were able to gain 1% almost completely without campaigning (due to restricted human ressources). Overall we got 3% in the Eastern district, with some circumscriptions over 5%. I know it is an extremely low scale, but it is progress and it makes me hopeful. Nationally, "Déi Lénk" also came close to 5% and now has 2 representatives in parliament (out of 60 total). Overall, I am optimistic for the future of our party, we grow slowly but consistently.

Personally, I am 24 years old and I am about to start my last year of Hispanic Studies, after which I will hopefully have my master's degree. I am relatively new to socialism, and I suscribe to this ideology because I intuitively feel it is right, and not because I have studied it extensively. I guess you may call me a post-marxist, I do not suscribe to any particular stream or current, I simply want to collectively work toward a more equal and just society, reduce poverty and improve workers' rights. For a long time I hesitated to join the party, thinking that it was too rigid of a structure and that sooner or later there would come a time when I would not agree with something the party decided. Well, I have been very positively surprised in seeing that "Déi Lénk" regroups people from all sides of the left spectrum, who are able to coexist and engage in interesting debates. This way, I have learned a lot about the different currents and also the history of socialism.

But I want to learn and discuss more, and that is why I decided to join this forum. I looked for a German or French one, but couldn't find any. The ones I found seemed to be associated to a specific party. This one was the only more "general" one I found.

I am also a big cycling fan and a member of the cyclingnews forum.

Finally, I wanted to pick the username "hasek" because of the czech author Jaroslav Hasek, who I find to be a fascinating person, but it was already taken. So I took "svejk", which is not half bad either :)

I look forward to many interesting discussions!

Christian (a.k.a. "svejk")

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

What is "post-Marxism"? And why do you feel yourself attracted to that?

Hello,

When you say that you want to reduce poverty and improve workers' rights, do you see this is some sort of short term goal until the means of production can be socialised, or is that what socialism means to you?
