This blew up on my local news in the last few days. Any reasons for why the police may have shot him are really unclear.

In this article a policeman claims he was assaulted by the victim, and shot in him dead in response.

"Police said Brown physically assaulted the officer from the Ferguson police, who then fired multiple shots at Brown after he left the car on Saturday. The officer, who was not identified, is a six-year veteran and has been put on administrative leave, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar told a news conference."

"I witnessed the police chase after the guy, full force," Piaget Crenshaw said. "He ran for his life. They shot him and he fell. He put his arms up to let them know that he was compliant and he was unarmed and they shot him twice more and he fell to the ground and died."

According to the BBC there was a small riot over this last night. Not much to say, business as usual. Bet the murderer gets a promotion.

My mom's a nurse at the hospital in downtown St. Louis, she works the night shift in the Trauma ICU. It's a little amusing, she tells me, because the media that plays on TVs throughout the hospital are saying "Thank god there have been no serious injuries associated with this event yet", when the ER is flooded with victims in this conflict

It's sort of telling that my first reaction to seeing the title of the thread was "so what else is new?".

Another hideous example of how 'law enforcement' feel they have a right to use whatever force they want in any given situation and especially that any provocation is worthy of a bullet, every potential threat needs to be 'put down', suspects need to 'stop or they will shoot' (except in this case, the victim was complying and the cop just fired anyway for reasons best known to themselves but it no doubt has it's roots in the idea that they are the law and must be obeyed, or else).

Just another example of why the police is inherently corrupt and brutal. I wish this was more tragic, but it happens so often that it's hard to be too sad over it. I do shed some tears for things like this, but these things just mostly piss me off. Especially with people talking about cops just doing their jobs and shit. Ex-cops are the worst, since they always try to justify the crimes.

I think this may be a tipping point in the consciousness of the US public. While some were looting, many more were protesting and have been bombarded with tear gas.
