I'd probably start off with the negatives of capitalism of which there is an endless list.

Then suggest the alternative way without using the words "communism" or "socialism" at first as it may put them off due to the stigma.

I have converted some of my friends to be more pro-left/anti-US imperial policy. Whenever we went talking about politics, I usually started explaining different basic ideologies (communism, anarchism, socialism, social-democracy, liberalism, conservativism, nazism, fascism). I simply explained, why would communism be ultimate democracy and how it would work. How we would archive it, by socialist theories etc.
