Hi, I don't know how many of you here know about John Green and the Crash Course Youtube channel, but their World History course is one of my favorite things on the internet, I think I watched every episode more then once. Anyways, it's a series of 42 videos lasting about 10 minutes or so, that cover the human history, delivered in a light-hearted way so as to be interesting for younger audiences. It's really great stuff, with nice jabs at eurocentrism, "great man history" and similar mainstream notions.

Here's the playlist:

I would suggest going through all of it, in order.

Next they did a series on US history:

And four weeks ago they started a second series on World History:

I've only seen a couple of episodes, but I.. wasn't really that impressed. I don't really enjoy the zany off-the-walls shtick, and iunno. From what I've seen, it tends to be largely more entertainment focused than education focused, he glosses over quite a lot in favor of random sidebars and wacky stuff.

Which, I guess, if you like that sort of thing, is fine.

I actually hate John Greene. I hate his fucking book- I think it was called looking for Alaska.

Yes, the the second series of World History does start with episodes dedicated to interesting topics. In the first series of World History there's an open letter to disease, I don't remember in which episode, and it is mentioned a fair number of times, to point out it's role in history.

I guess the comedy is given weight because the series are for high school aged americans, but I kinda like the humour. I wouldn't really say it's more fun then education, I learned a lot of stuff in these series, althought that might be because I forgot a lot of stuff from my high school, it's more then a decade since I finished it..

He's written multiple books, I don't like that young adult novel stuff, so avoided them, also I glossed a few episodes of his Literature series, but skipped that, too. But I love the history series, I also watch Mental Floss, some videos on VlogBrothers, and I also like his brother's SciShow.

His history series (world, but it sounds like he did another?) was not terrible. I just can't separate him in my mind from that terrible book.

There's the World History, there's the US history series, and the second series of World History started.
