Having watched BBC's This world, last night I was shocked to see this story of brutality from the countries leaders on its people, however I felt the program was a little bias in its outlook and was trying very hard to make N.K look worse than it is in reality.

Take a look: -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/this...rld/3436701.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/this_world/3436701.stm)

This World has uncovered evidence of another more chilling evil: that North Korea is testing new chemical weapons on women and children.

Hundreds of thousands of people are imprisoned without charge. It's not because they have committed a crime. It is because their relatives are believed to be critical of the regime and so they are punished.

Kwon Hyok, a former North Korean army intelligence officer, was also chief guard at "Prison Camp no. 22". For the first time on camera, he describes specially-made glass gas chambers used for human experimentation.

I watched that programme as well, and i was disgusted by how they act as if they are Communist, yet are in reality some of thw orst fascists in the world at the present time.

The north Korean people must be suffering so much more then we can imagine.

It was a great program, particularly the woman who made the program stating that the DPRK started the Korean War and then advocating an American invasion of the DPRK.

The people are so terrified of the "two Kims" that they watch the smae thing over and over agian every night, they do not dare to hold different opinions to the Government and if their father/mother was a criminal, they are also criminals, and their children will be too, due to the DPRK's very starnge, draconian and just daft "heriditary law"

I would like to see some Human Rights reports on these stories before assuming they're true.

I feel these are just sensational stories are lies told by defectors to try and arouse sentiment against North Korea. Communists eat your children. Communists will torture you if you suspected of talking against the govt. Communists make you work 24-7 with no food. Blah blah blah blah

It was not dealt with very well. It was only a single journalist that created the programme, and she underlined the fact that Kim Jong Il was evil, the DPRK was terribly poor and a horrible place to live and that the Americans should invade the DPRK to save Korea. She commented on how it was terrible that the Americans are scared of the DPRK so they offer aid rather than invading as they should be doing to rid the country of its evil. She neglected to mention that it was the Americans who ended the Agreed Framework and missed out 8 years of its history.

My view is she went into this subject blind and only listened to very biased western information.

I'm not going to go so far as to say that I don't think that crimes are being committed against the people of the DPRK, largely due to the fact that I've never been there. The fact is that pretty much no one from the west has been there, so the only information we have on the DPRK comes from defecctors, who as we all know will pretty much say anything in order to recieve amnesty in a western nation.

With that said, I also believe that the DPRK is not the least bit socialist at all. Kim Jong Il spends to much money of defense (45% of it's GDP) I do believe that the people of North Korea are going hungry, because various North Koreans keeping breaching the Chinese boarder, raiding houses for whatever food and belongings they can find. Hower, it does not help the DPRK people's sitaution a whole lot to have all sorts of US and European trade sanctions agianst their country.

Food should never be used as a weapon, no matter how hostile the government, because economic sanctions only end up hurting the people, never the ruler. Sanctions didn't lead to the fall of Castro, they didn't lead to the fall of Saddam and won't lead to the fall of Kim Jong Il either.
