I was in sales a long time. Depending on what you are selling it can be an extremely chauvinistic and sexist work environment. Particularly when there's only men in a given office.

When I sold cars, the title of this post is the verbatim phrase. When dealing with appeared to be a mixed gender couple buying a car, always pitch the male. This phrase was also used in the movie Boiler Room, and I can assure you, it has been in use long before then and even currently. Take the stock brokerage John Thomas Financial (JTF).

I was curious as to the experiences others have had in a sales or call center environment with sexism. I guess things haven't changed a whole lot.

I hope the title of my post doesn't offend anyone. It was only meant to highlight the phrase.

Ugh. The last car my parents bought, the salesman at one dealership would only speak to my father, and my mother told him to fuck off and they went somewhere else. It was a guaranteed sale, since that was the very specific car they wanted, so being a douche really worked out well for him.

My father tends to avoid doing jobs for women and he seems to listen and talk to the men more. My father also refuses to employ female employees anymore because he doesn't want them to do labor like a "man." Honestly I prefer to work with women and I don't care about the gender of the client. My father is an old sexist pig who keeps trying to tell me it's natural to objectify women and to view them as lessers.

When I worked as a sales man i found generaly that the other sales men where chauvinistic ass hats and it was a pain in the ass. There is something about sales that just draws them in.
