Hi :)

I used to be a Revleft member years ago. I didn't leave for any particular reason, there were just other things going on that meant I had less time for the internet. I'm from England (the North-East) - was born in Newcastle and grew up in the Durham area. The only good thing about living in an ex-pit village was the fact that it was a more left-wing environment than a lot of other towns. I remember how shocked I was when I discovered that Margaret Thatcher actually had supporters and she wasn't just the punchline to jokes!

I'm back here because I've noticed a shift in people's attitudes towards the right; nobody here votes for the tories, but there's an increasing amount of UKIP support and that kind of thing. I'm tired of hearing complaints about immigrants/people on benefits. It's like being forced to listen to an audio version of the Daily Mail.

I always avoided specific ideological labels but my political compass result was:

Economic Left/Right: -8.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.41

Does this make me some kind of anarchist? Libertarian socialist?

Anyway, nice to meet everyone.

Welcome back :)

If you have an older account, you're nudged to using that, if you can. If you still know your username, but can't reset your password, you can contact an admin to have this resolved.

And yes, due the left's general collapse, society has been looking towards other 'answers', like that of the far right. Overall, this will result in unstable formations as populists come and go. As a communist, I think we should start with a refocusing of the far left forces under a common communist programme in order to be able to built a party of tens of thousands and later millions, a real force in society.

The prolitical compass tells you very little. Like, I score very close to -10/-10 and I'm an 'orthodox' Marxist (which, broadly defining, means essentially what I described in my previous paragraph).

Thanks for the welcome.

I read the forum policy about not having two accounts, but I was here years ago and I don't even remember my old username now. :o Do accounts get deleted if users are inactive?

The left deserved to collapse, the left is an obstacle to socialism. You sound like a libertarian socialist like me. I quite like the Political compass but its not popular here.

The left deserved to collapse, the left is an obstacle to socialism.

But the left's migration to UKIP/the BNP is also an obstacle to socialism?
