Hey,
21 year old, been an anarchist for around 4-5 years. I was a leninist for about a year and then actually read some marx and started working and that pretty much put an end to it.
Fan of stand up, Anthony Bourdain is my Hunter S. Thompson and I love pretty much anything German, the football, the food, the Weihenstephener.
Don't really do much in the way of political activity since attending some occupations and mayday events, was totally turned off by the supposed workers movement being dominated by vegan liberal uni students who have never worked and have a completely token attitude to regular blue collar men and women.
I am trying to get the staff at my job to all join the same union and actively work for things through collective actions but they are so understandably dismissive and we are agency staff and few in number so its probably pointless anyway.
So yeah nice to meet you all :)
Welcome :)
If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!
If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

Hey :) We're around the same age (you're a year younger).
Without knowing the situation I can't say whether the union action is pointless but at least you're trying!
Btw, I understand your point about vegan liberal students but they're presumably going to be workers once they graduate, not all in high paid jobs? And what's wrong with being vegan? :(

Hey Sofia,
Nothing is inherently wrong with being Vegan other than the majority of them I know have terrible animal liberation politics, I also just flat out don't think it is a very good way to eat, but that is not why I find most of them annoying.
The trendy self righteousness and disregard for the plight of workers who eat meat compared to their championing of chickens rights just tends to make me feel a bit pissed off whenever i talk to them.
A lot of the Anarchist scene revolves around being middle class and eating a balanced and nutritious vegan diet while posting blog updates on your new Ipad (just bad personal experiences probably), something I and most other working males who train and have atheltic goals just can not do without spending insane ammounts of money.
I was a vegan myself for over 2 years when I was consistnetly training in different sports. I felt great for the first six months, after that my testosterone levels dropped, lost most of my lean mass and generally felt crappy. I reintroduced meat and My testosterone came back, grew a big beard within a week, gained 20-25 pounds of muscle and felt way way better.
If it works for you though thats awesome :)
I am an out of shape bastard at the moment anyway after a long injury layoff, so don't take nutritional advice from jaba the gut.

Hello. Welcome to the land of broken promises and illusory dreams. Your time here will feel like minutes but they will actually be days. There is no denial. There is no turning back. You are here now.

Welcome! I apologize if I came off as hash in the IDF topic, please don't see it as personal. It's the internet, so sometimes tone is off or people get a little rude :)

No worries. I find most people on political forums are introverts and quite non confrontational and anxious in real life and when they are online they feel a power to talk shit or be more aggressive in their language and debating tactics that they are scared or unable to employ in real life situations.
Not refering to you specifically here, just pointing out why i take none of it personally.
Anyway thanks for the reply Jimmie. I appreciate it.

No worries, I wasn't offended by your comment. :) I don't think people need to justify their reasons for not being vegan, it won't work for everyone.
In fact, I know exactly what you mean about the 'trendy' kind of vegan. I remember looking through a recipe blog and wondering how much this person spent on food because every other ingredient was some luxury or obscure item. Sometimes it feels as though workers' rights would only matter if it started interfering with the supply of quinoa and organic almond butter.
Anyway, thanks for explaining.

Welcome. I wouldn't worry too much about demos, trade unions, hippies etc. One of the most important things is if you can cast a vote you can help usher in socialism.

Welcome. Why'd you "stop" being a Leninist? I put stop in quotations because from what you said it sounds like you really weren't more than a fan of Lenin.

My biggest influences as a young pissed off kid were black Maoists. I was just a pissed off working class kid and I never bothered to explore any writings or differing opinions, Once I heard a good critique of capitalism by them I was sure I needed to support the abolishment of capitalism and I had no idea about much else.
I didn't even realise for like 6 months that communism was stateless and had no monetary system. Eventually talking to other marxist and anarchist groups and people and just getting older and a bit smarter and starting to read theory and books on economics and history my political views changed.
I think what fueled the initial leninist stance was just pure unchanneled rage at being a poor broke fuck with no prospects. There was no involved and well researched decision to identify as one. It was just the first thing that I was drawn to to explain my and my families position in society.
That and the maoists i looked up to were from quite tough areas, didn't take shit and were so politically incorrect they would be banned on here. A great mixture of macho posturing and radical anti capitalist views that would naturally attract young pissed off males.
Are you a Leninist?

I'm a Stalinist so yes. I guess I asked the wrong question, what about Leninism caused you to write it off?
