View Full Version : The Real "Rate My Username" Thread

By virtue of the demands raised by the people's democratic revolutionary front, here it is folks: the thread where you can rate usernames. Please rate on a scale of 1-10, using integers only, with 10 being the best of the best and 1 being the worst of the worst.

Sinister Intents is a good name. Your avatar is already a black cat, therefore "the Black Cat" is superfluous and you switched "Sinister Intents" to just SI.

i used to sleep to red noise playing in the background, so that's pretty much how i came to choose that name. it also has other implications: one is obvious, "red". pink noise is also less commonly referred to as red noise, and red/pink noise is prevalent in meteorological data readings... which is the profession i'm studying to go into.

It means "music of the future".
When I first read the expression Zukunftsmusik, I thought it made a lovely name, and, IIRC, it comes from K. Marx, richtig? The name takes me back to a couple of immigrants/college profs that I knew decades ago, Herta and August, who would be pleased that I understood the phrase, so, 9 out of 10.
The other name that I particularly like is Rocinante, which, if I am not mistaken, was the name of Don Quixote's steed. When I was in college, I knew a young lady from overseas, who loved talking about Rocinante, and, additionally, I am very fond of just about anything Spanish. I thought southern Spain was the most beautiful place on earth, when I lived there briefly. So, 8 out of 10.

You are most correct, another supporting hint would be my little title "Quixotic Workhorse".
I find the harsh rocky landscape between Cordoba and towns like Benalmadena or Malaga (Costa del Sol) to be simply beautiful. The Sierra Nevada though... my gosh that was a sight to behold. The Alhambra too. Ah the memories.
I give you an 8/10 simply because your name and avatar seem to make a nice constant, I've always seen the two together and they are quite memorable. That and "sixdollarchampagne" seems to work quite well in itself. I'm not entirely sure why. What's the reasoning behind your choice?

10/10 Spanish moss sounds like some dank shit.
It is actually an invasive weed pest, responsible for millions of dollars in ecological damage; moreover botanists tell me it is neither Spanish nor moss
PS its scientific name, which means "terrestrial" is in honor of a Swedish naturalist who had got so sea sick traveling from stockholm to Finland, he insisted on walking the journey the next time he had to travel.

Thank you, Rocinante, for your kind and generous sentiments. Spain was enchanting; I was in a small place called Rota, in Andalucía, and I made a couple of trips to Sevilla. I seriously thought about settling in southern Spain, but my entire family is in the southern US, so living in Spain would not have worked – but my whole life would have been different. As to the explanation for $6 champagne, it's very simple: New Year's Eve, a few years ago, I bought a bottle of champagne for $6 (a bargain, I thought). My friend was going downtown to watch the revelers, and I told him I would drink some champagne now, and, when he returned, if I had not gone blind, he could have some too. :) The picture in blue is of the young Trotsky, my political hero. I think it is a mugshot.

All I can say, is I like champagne, but I love Trotsky. :)
When I traveled to Mexico City, at the invitation of comrades there, the first place I was taken to was Trotsky's house in Coyoacán and visiting it was a dream come true. In one of the rooms you can still see the bullet holes in the wall, where Trotsky's enemies (led by the muralist David Siqueiros) attempted to assassinate him. I wish the Old Man had died of old age, instead of what eventually happened.
