I think this is a slight attempt to cover up job losses in the US by saying some self-employees don't show up on the employed count.

Some like, lame attempt at Bush suporting. Your thoughts?

Unemployment stats are always iffy. They tally the numbers according to the amount of people who are receiving benefits. We never know exactly if those who are no longer receiving are

a) actually employed
b) exhausted their benefits
c) are they on welfare
d) if they are working is it full time or part time work
e) if they self employed (with what money? the lottery?)
f) they just plain gave up looking.

They only go by one measely stat and don't take into account the broader picture out there. This, of course, doesn't surprise me in the least.

The distrubing part is how they praise the Republicans for raising the nomber of employed people by 700 000. I should look on the article again but at 2:33am, not a whole lot will make sense. But whatever. I think it's a bullshit article trying to back up Bush for the next election.

Self-employed is a term that can be applied to anything. Ultimately, this article should not be used as a means of showing the readers that many jobs are not accounted for. This is because the self-employed seldom have necessary benefits. Some of which include health insurance, retirement pensions etc.
