Earlier this year, a chemical company in West Virginia called Freedom Industries contaminated the ground water for 300,000 people in the state, poisoning hundreds of thousands and forcing people to find other water sources. The Federal Government announced the sentence this week.

They were fined a measly 11,000 dollars. (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/07/08/wv-chemical-company-fined-11000-for-poisoning-300000-peoples-drinking-water/)

Yeah, I pretty much vomited in my own mouth when I read that. As if the folks in West Virginia don't have it bad enough......

These kinds of companies have an insanely bad reputation. I've been reading about lots of corporations lately. There's an environmental-human rights-legal NGO called EarthRights International and you should read some of the claims made against corporations that are implicated in human rights abuses. Shell Oil, Chevron...and they're the recent cases. It's worse if you look back at companies like Dow Chemical and Union Carbide (think Bhopal Disaster).

Sorry, this has little to do with the actual case you posted about. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
