Is this similar to the strikes that occurred during the whole Occupy Wall Street period?

The Oakland dock strike during Occupy Wall Street was an impromptu event in one location due to the large protest march that occurred that blockaded the main roads towards the docks. This is a dispute between the bosses and the workers over their contracts that has culminated in workers from several locations on the west coast potentially deciding to strike. Similar but in many ways the origins of the struggle is different.

It also says here that:
if history is any guide, a deal will not be wrapped up by that time. In the past, it has taken several weeks after contract expiration to come up with an agreement, making things dicey for importer and exporters using these ports.
...
for example, the ILWU could hold occasional "emergency union meetings" that would turn one-hour lunches into three-hour shutdowns, according to Bruce Carlton, president and CEO of the National Industrial Transportation League (NIT League). Such a tactic would simply be a way to remind ports and terminals that the ILWU has power, Carlton said, and will become more likely as negotiations drag on.

There isn't really any news. The dock workers' contract expired last Tuesday, and the union and bosses are still in negotiations. I don't really get the impression that a strike is that likely for the time being, but depending on how long the talks drag on, it could become more likely in the coming couple of weeks.

Dock workers aren't on strike yet but it appears that the Teamsters are on strike which is disrupting port trucking
