I'm currently working as a journalist focusing on the middle east and I was hoping to see if anyone could recommend some good stuff examining the politics of the Middle East from a left/marxist/anarchist perspective?

It isn't explicitly 'left' but Arab Spring, Libyan Winter by Vijay Prashad is a very good read.

The Palestinian Revolutionary Communist League had some good material, but most of it is unfortunately not available in English. The Spartacist League published an article - "The Birth of the Zionist State" - that I found quite interesting. Hal Draper's "Israel's Arab Minority" is an interesting account, although Draper himself had some odd positions (including support for Israel in 1948).
