In recent news from Sweden: Svenskarnas parti - the Party of the Swedes, formerly National Socialist Front, the primary neo-Nazi group in Sweden and the first such to be democratically elected to anything since the interwar era - has abandoned its allies, the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda". I'm sure we all know who Svoboda are by now.
Svoboda's international ties in Europe have been collapsing lately. They left their observer seat in the Alliance of European National Movements in March 2014, due to AENM's (which includes the now dissolved National Democrats of Sweden, Hungary's Jobbik, the British National Party, and formerly France's Front National) increasingly deep support for Putin and Russia. In 2009, Svoboda met with representatives of among others the Freedom Party of Austria, the Bulgarian ultranationalists of "Attack", Flemish Interest, and Italy's New Force neo-Fascists. The Austrians, Bulgarians and Flemish have all since aligned themselves fully with Putin and Russia, thus not exactly making them allies of Svoboda.
Tighter connections were made with New Force than with the others, with several mutual meetings, and together with them Svoboda attended "Vision Europa", a conference held in March 2013 by the Party of the Swedes. Regarding Svoboda's attendance, SVP's international secretary Dan Eriksson said: "It is tremendously pleasing that Svoboda choses to come to Vision Europa. We have had contact for some time and it is interesting to see how similar our thoughts are, despite our countries going through so different developments." Others in attendance were groups like National Democratic Party of Germany, who much like New Force Svoboda would come to have mutual meetings with a few months later. Today, the NDP has likewise gone out in support of Russia and Putin. (as for New Force, I sadly have no idea about their current stances.)
The Party of the Swedes have, throughout the conflict in Ukraine, been one of few groups to remain firmly on Svoboda's and Kiev's side, even contributing a small number of volunteers. Michael Skillt, a rather infamous Swedish Nazi, has notoriously been fighting in Eastern Ukraine.
Now, however, the Party of the Swedes are abandoning Svoboda as well. Original in Swedish on their website: hXXps://www.svenskarnasparti.se/2014/06/18/svenskarnas-parti-lagger-relationen-med-svoboda-pa-is-2/
The Party of the Swedes put the relation with Svoboda on ice
After multiple strange statements and positions from the Ukrainian party Svoboda, at the same time as the party's representatives have avoided to answer questions about these statements, the Party of the Swedes now choose to for the time being put the relation with the party on ice.
"Through the contacts we have with the party we have for a long time tried to get Svoboda to explain some to say the least strange positions. In the beginning they were often brusque and avoidant, but recently the answers have been completely absent", says Dan Eriksson who is responsible for the Party of the Swedes' international relations.
The Party of the Swedes have for a long time tried to maintain contact with Svoboda in order to gain information straight from the source, instead of relying on filtered media reports. When the party now has, despite both email contact and visits in Kiev, been unable to get answers on important questions for a long time, it is impossible for the party to make a correct evaluation of Svoboda, or give the party a continued support in such a way that has happened before.
Svoboda visited the Party of the Swedes in Stockholm in March 2013 to participate in the Vision Europa conference. Since then the parties have had regular contact up until the Yanukovych government's fall.
"We understand that the situation in Ukraine is chaotic and that they can't prioritize answering our questions, but now it has gone far too long time and far too many promised meetings have failed to happen. If we can't get answers about Svoboda's stance on some for us fundamental political questions it is hard to build a lasting relationship", Dan Eriksson says.
In connection to the revolution on Maidan multiple members of Svoboda were shot to death, which gave the Party of the Swedes reason to express its sorrow and its support for the party that had been a guest less than a year ago.
It is natural for us to express support for nationalists in a rough situation, especially those we have had as guests in our own capital. When it comes to matters of foreign politics like the one in Ukraine we have however consciously chosen not to make statements too quickly due to the complex situations in both the country and within different nationalist groups, since we have neither the resources or the ability to make any deeper analyses of today. As Swedish nationalists we must put our main focus on domestic politics - especially during an election year", says party leader Stefan Jacobsson.
The Party of the Swedes hopes that Svoboda can answer the questions asked of them satisfactorily, so that the party has the opportunity to make a new judgement of Svoboda and hopefully also eventually strengthen the relation again. The Party of the Swedes supports nationalists in all of Europe, and wishes to cooperate with those parties that put the own people's interests first. At the same time the Party of the Swedes holds that conflicts about historical borders etc. - which sadly exist between all too many European nations - are very unfortunate. Especially in these times when the peoples of Europe face their largest challenges ever and as free nations instead of internal disputes should unite against the impending political and demographical threats towards Europe's future, freedom and well-being.
Finally, according to this (https://mobile.twitter.com/MikaelSkillt/status/479938284534366208) tweet by Michael Skillt, he has not renewed his SVP membership, and is currently "independent".
