It has become increasingly likely that the U.S. government will once again take military action in Iraq. It is urgent that anti-war forces mobilize to tell the Obama Administration that the people of this country completely oppose any new war on Iraq.

The ANSWER Coalition is gearing up for such efforts, and is calling for nationwide demonstrations on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21, as well as emergency actions the day U.S. bombing starts, in the event that it happens before these dates.

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld should be arrested and prosecuted for their criminal acts in Iraq. It was the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq that destroyed the country and brought about the current crisis. There is nothing the Pentagon can do with more air strikes and destruction to undo that, or bring about peace now.

We in the anti-war movement fought too long and too hard to prevent and end that illegal and unjust war. We cannot sit by idly today when the Pentagon may be about to open a new chapter in its history of death and destruction. All Out!

I'm kind of conflicted about this. Part of me feels like the US has a responsibility to solve this mess.

I oppose imperialism of course but let's be honest. Iraq is not at all independent from the US at this point. Whether they intervene or not, imperialism has won.

I suspect the US will continue to dabble in parts 'of the mess' that are in its economic interests to alter. That doesn't mean the outcome will be anything less than horrific and removed from the pages of history.

[EmergencyResponseforUSAttackonIranorSyria] Report on Friday demo to oppose U.S. threats to bomb Iraq

REPORT ON THE FRIDAY EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION
--called to oppose U.S. government threats to bomb Iraq

Friday, on short notice, anti-war activists came out to call on the people of Chicago to once again say NO to Obama’s threats to bomb Iraq--after he has already sent well over 300 Special Forces military personnel in to interfere in a situation of growing chaos.

Loud speakers provided by the Answer Coalition, initiator of the demonstration, ensured that speeches and chants could be heard more than a block away, getting the attention of passersby--many of whom said they were not at all aware of the danger of escalating war against the people of Iraq. A large yellow banner faced car and bus passengers with the message: “NO MORE WARS FOR U.S. EMPIRE !”

We demonstrators took up the task of educating Americans
-- because the corporate-owned media doesn’t clarify issues, and most often repeats the lies and distortions that the corporate government puts out to hide its bloody tracks. We took up the responsibility of Americans by handing out at least 700 flyers to people passing by during the hour--urging them to join us in shouting: “U.S. Hands Off Iraq! Iraq for the Iraqis!

Anti-war activists are taking up the challenge of the propaganda war
to let Americans know that the government is committing crimes in our name, without our permission and using our tax money --not to solve problems, but to kill more people and destroy other people’s countries for corporate profits and control--in the name of “helping them”!

We don’t know exactly who is funding or backing ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) or exactly what the U.S. aims are at this time. We do know that ISIS--one of the groups in Syria active in the U.S.-backed campaign for regime change-- is using weapons supplied by the U.S.

We also know that Iraqi President Maliki, originally backed by the U.S., refused in 2011 to sign an agreement to allow the U.S. to leave thousands of troops in place ---without coming under Iraqi law, to be prosecuted for any crimes they might commit against Iraqis. Now the Obama administration is reportedly maneuvering to replace Maliki --who was just re-elected--with someone more to U.S. liking.

Obama has in recent days emphasized that air strikes are “an option,” as the forces of ISIS are reported to be moving to take over valuable oil installations and cities in northern Iraq and on the border of Syria. Obama has said that U.S. is acting because “obviously issues like energy and global energy markets continues to be important” (from CNN transcript of Obama press conference on the U.S. in Iraq June 18). Warships have been moved into the area. Obama promises there will be no U.S. boots on the ground--ignoring the fact that the U.S. already has at least 1500 troops there--those just sent to be “advisors,” and those that are part of the permanent forces at the largest U.S. embassy in the world--with its military security and CIA operatives.

Obama solemnly proclaimed: “American combat troops are not going to be fighting in Iraq again…[But the U.S.] will be prepared to take targeted precise military action if we conclude that the situation on the ground requires it.”

All of this U.S. interference in the affairs of Iraq goes directly against the international principle of sovereignty
--recognizing the right of the people in each country to solve problems without interference from outside forces with their own self-serving agendas. More killing of Iraqis and destruction of their land by the U.S. corporate government can not solve any problems in Iraq.

Let’s remember our experience in September
--at the last minute, the Obama administration called off the planned air strikes on Syria. This was in the wake of the huge worldwide opposition to the threat of bombing. We have to mobilize maximum Americans against this latest threat.

And we have to be on the alert
. If the government goes ahead with its threatened attacks, an emergency protest will be held at 5 p.m. at Federal Plaza--the day of or the day after air strikes begin.

No more U.S. interference in other countries !
All Troops Home Now !
U.S. Out of the Middle East !
U.S. Government, Hands Off Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Syria, Venezuela !

Some choice parts of that email (ckaihatsu, come on, really?):

"..urging them to join us in shouting"

"And we have to be on the alert
. If the government goes ahead with its threatened attacks, an emergency protest will be held at 5 p.m. at Federal Plaza--the day of or the day after air strikes begin."

Can you clarify if this involves more shouting?
